Dilan Markanday

Just saw this. Hopefully a concrete buy back option so this can be treated more like a loan if he does kick on but it’s a shame he hasn’t seen Skipp as evidence that there is a pathway to the first team.

He's out if contract at the end of the season, so selling him now is the best move if he won't sign a new one. Like you, I hope that we have an option and sell on clause.

Or push for a part exchange for Brereton, who is in an identical contract situation

Yeah not sure we can do about it. If he’s going to play for them in a Prem promotion push it’s a great opportunity (I didn’t realise they were 3rd in the champ either!!)

If he is one of our most rated youngsters then how come he has got to 20 years old (21 in the summer), without a loan yet? Did he turn down loans in the past? Seems strange.

He was a late developer. He's bulked up massively in the last year to 18 months

Well, if Conte isn't convinced that he can develop into what's required, or the player wanted more guarantees than we could give him, then it's best for all concerned that he moves on. Wish him all the best.

Shame it appears he is leaving. Structure with our youth development/contracts has to be improved surely? Cirkin is another one who recently left for first team football (no idea if he is getting it now, or how he is doing), but a clearer, visible pathway for our youngsters to the first team squad would be helpful i think

And all of these youngsters have gone on to become Premier league players? Maybe we overhype youngsters too much? Hows Parrot getting on?
My sentiments exactly
Some of these may come good
Most have a career which is decent
Only one that’s stepped up though is The als that’s went to PsV

To be fair, we haven't really got burnt by an academy player leaving since the Des Walker or Graham Souness days.

Parrott is actually doing pretty well and is young enough (he's younger than Markanday) to still make it

to Windy's thread though, it's not about them going on to be a global superstar, most in fact, will not.

It's the fact that given a season and a half in the senior team, their sell on value is multiple what we sell for. Let's look at Liverpool:

Jordan Ibe was on the books for Liverpool for 4 years, played 41 games in totality, then went for £15M. Harry Wilson didn't even play for Liverpool, loaned to a whole range of Championship clubs, sold for £12M. Dominic Solanke, 21 games for Liverpool, went for £20M.

Joe Willock at Arsenal, 40 games, £25M. Tomori at Chelsea, 25 games for Chelsea, whole host of loans, £25M sale.

People are looking at this entirely wrong that they've not turned into Ronaldo, therefore it's not a loss.

It's a huge fudging loss. And that's money that should be reinvested into our club, instead Levy's doing fudging deals for houses across the road. People should be furious but instead are oblivious.

Who do you think this is on? Dean Rastrick as recent Academy Manager, the 2 years of Mourinho/Santo having no interest in youth development, or a 7 year interlude with no DoF?
