Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

More fraud and corruption

That's neither corruption nor Fraud it was perfectly legal. Just because you don't like Blair doesn't make it so.

Let's be clear the Blairs' claiming was no different than Levy accessing it for the employees of THFC. The problem was inherent in the administration of the scheme itself. There were not sufficient safeguards in the scheme to protect the taxpayer. It's laughable to rely on some moral code to now reclaim the money for the Exchequer.

O2 (and Virgin) the only major network not to introduce EU Roaming costs. New tax to support social care.

When's all that Brexit bonus coming in so i can plan accordingly?

On the Politics front, really good listen on FT Politics (Payne's Politics) podcast on the cost of living crisis.

So, as our energy bills are pegged against various mechanisms, we'll be seeing a large hit on energy, with prices announced i think in Feb, and live as of April.

However, the govt have very little manoueverability on what can be done (something to the tune of £20bn needed), along with the NI/Social care tax coming in and inflation expected to hit 6%.

Then we have the local elections in May, so a lot can happen between now and then, be interesting to see what happens. Problem is, certainly where i live in the Tory heartlands, people will continue to vote for the same party regardless.

But surely we’ve got the £350 million per week Brexit money to kick in, so no need for the NI/social care hike? Plus Johnson said inflation would remain low once we were out of Europe, so a projected rate of 6% surely can’t be right?

Its deliberate death by 1000 cuts. Someone is doing it very purposefully. They'll keep dripping out till the final photo, the one of BJ using covid victims skulls as novelty punchbowls, finally brings him down
I initially thought it was someone sympathetic to Labour doing the leaking. But with the amount of information they have, it has to be within the party.

Smart move though. Boris is getting all the criticism for this, not the party. Once he's been politically assassinated, the party will be free to choose a leader who can actually conservative properly.

I saw some amateur sleuthing that suggested the first party pictures released were taken from Sunak’s office window.

I expect it's Cummings. It feels more nihilistic than machiavellian.

But, now Brexit and Covid are done with, I agree it definitely feels like it's time to have a grown-up in charge. Ideally someone with no baggage from this cabinet, a real fresh start. Someone with a bit more integrity and emotional intelligence. A Rory Stewart, Ruth Davidson or Tom Tugendhat (I appreciate the first two aren't currently MPs, but the Johnson under Cameron/Burnham under Corbyn route is sometimes the smart one).

I favour a Labour government myself. But if we are to have a Conservative government we should at least have a proper one so they can do the things that they do well. Lower taxes and business growth.

Johnson feels like Bliar to me.
