Davinson Sanchez

I think we should worry about getting rid of Rodon before Sanchez. As we play with a back most of the time we are not getting rid of both him and Rodon this window. We need 5 or 6 central defenders so Sanchez is going nowhere this window. By the way, what do you think is a "good offer"?

Agreed.

Enough to bring in a suitable replacement that we rate really highly and leave us with a bit left over to spend elsewhere. So not going to happen.

It’s what conte said publicly

Well he's hardly going to say a player isn't in his plans for the future.

He also said he's behind Dier, didn't say he was the next one in if Dier is out.

Hey, not saying he isn't, he may me. Just so far we haven't seen that he is. I've quite liked what I've seen from Rodon when he has played, but he's been far from game time under several managers now and unless he starts getting minutes soon I'm struggling to see him stick around.

If everyone was fit other than Dier, would Rodon start in the centre? Not so sure.

Probably his best role, doesn't mean he's next in line. May be If he gets the chance and takes it well.
I think he would start Rodon if everyone except Dier was available, I truly believe that.

Rodon has started for us right of a 2 a few times abs central in a once from memory

the guy is imo not fancied by the club but I really like him

We normally play with a back 3 so it makes sense that we have 6 central defenders:

Tanganaga (he does not have a future as a wingback at Spurs)
Dier
Davies
Sanchez
Romero
Rodon

If we bring a central defender in, I presume it will be for Rodon. I would suggest we will not sign more than one central defender this window. If we bring in another one in the summer then Conte will make a decision as to who to let go then, I will be stunned if either Dier or Davies leave the club in the summer.

LCB: Davies
CB: Dier, Rodon
RCB: Romero, Sanchez, Tanganga.
If we bring a CB this January it is going to be a LCB, someone who hopefully will put Davies on the bench, not on the field.

If the player is better than Davies, that would be perfectly fine to me, but Davies has improved greatly under Conte so I would expect it would have to take a very good defender to replace him on his present form.

He has improved and it is clear the new position and having more teammates around helps him out, but lets not forget who we are talking about. 1st goal received în the Liverpool match is his. He wanted to stop the ball, but his "skill" let him down and the ball jumped 5 metres out to the Liv player, who crossed for the goal.
He is a decent player now but plenty of better defenders out there.

It's a mistake that happens, did OK to intercept the ball, not really an easy ball to control or clear.

Better defenders, sure, many. Better defenders for a left sided CB role in our system, sure, but not nearly as many.

Davies is proving a consistent performer and important part of our team. Grass is always greener and all that.

He is looking a different player under Conte, whatever Conte has said to him its working so far. He seems more confident in what he does and lets hope he keeps it up.

I agree, but he explained why in an interview last week, I think - Conte basically tells him exactly what to do, when to do it, whom to pass to, and where to position himself.

You can't really fit Sanchez into a system where he has to make instinctive decisions, I suspect - because he usually gets them horribly wrong. Overcommits, positions himself badly, makes the wrong call too many times.

Mourinho's system was basically this - he relied on players to make decisions on the field, and Sanchez struggled terribly.

He does well in two types of systems - Conte's type of relentless drill where the instinctual decision-making is taken out of his hands, and pressing systems where he can use his pace to play the role of the last man in the back line pretty well.

All that to say, I think he's done well and Romero won't walk back in when he comes back from injury (and nor should he). Right now, that RCB slot is Sanchez's spot to lose.

But do I think he's improved the long-term deficiencies in his game? I'm unsure. I think a lot of players look better than they are right now because Conte's system brings the best out of limited players ,and I think Davinson benefits from this.

But not every coach is as thorough as Conte. And down the line, *if* he stays, we'll need him to make decisions and take control on the field again at some point. Can Sanchez do that? Jury's out, imo.

Was a bit surprised at his very muted celebration though
With a 96th minute winner at the end where the away fans were I would have gone fooooooooooking mental

Probably got fed up with all the brick he gets week in and week out regardless of how well he plays.

Maybe, if I'm honest I've not heard any abuse for him from where I sit at all this season, he has been pretty much very good all season
