Giovani Lo Celso

Trying to get this back on track
We have signed a very expensive player who so far has shown that when he is fit and willing and deployed in the position he suits he can be of value as shown by the way he played in those few games
Beyond that he is a spare part draining the club of money and resources
Getting injured in a warm down is something I’ve only heard of once before at the club and it’s frankly crazy
For £40m plus I expect more
We can give him 4 years to become a squad player or we can cut our losses like we should have or would have done sooner with other players

He was one of our best players in that first season under Jose. Which was why he was signed permanently. I don't know what's happened since then but if he can stay injury free he would benefit from a run of games alongside Skipp. He would be better than PEH imo.

Is signing a permanent contract a clue?

We won't give him 4 years. It's make or break time. January or the summer I think are the only real possible timelines. Before that, consistent performances when playing, available to play enough to make a difference.

That's still possible, but with every injury looks ever more unlikely.

I think we should cut our losses, he is too injury prone for us and along with how his international bias constantly stitches us up he just hasn’t done enough overall to warrant persisting with.

However, reading a few commenting about him showing nothing since being here is nonsense. Like you say under Jose he was really good for a period where he was fit and consistently playing. Look up his assist away at Southampton as an example of what he has done and what he can do. Unfortunately the only benefit he has provided lately is helping Romero settle in, and even then that seems to mean settling him into the treatment room:D…..

I think we are learning that injuries aren’t binary. Lamela in the documentary showed that. Quite clearly there were times that he probably could have played but due to some kind of self assessment he had to sit games and training out.

I assume that’s what we are seeing now with Lo Celso. Seems fit as a fiddle with country but as soon as availability for Spurs becomes the topic the niggles seem to creep in.

Conte, I assume, will no way stand for players that don’t fancy it.

I agree
But we have done it before
Not sure why but we have kept and extended the contracts of players who got injured not playing

Indeed he was, i think he has played out of posistion a lot as well ( wide) and its not done him any favours. He has talent (imo) but as you say he needs to stay injury free and get a run of games before making a final judgement.

That’s the key
I’ve said it loads that he is a quality player
I’d argue he is perfect to play behind Kane and son
But to do that he has to show much more desire to get on the pitch. His injuries aren’t a confidence if he can get fit to play on his comfort zone for his country
He reminds of Tomas Rosicky at arsenal who looked great in spells but was always injured
But Played over 100 internationals yet only 170 games for them

Opta data only seems to go back to 2015/16 season for Squawka Comparison but FWIW here’s Lamela’s 3rd campaign with us compared to Lo Celso’s most recent complete one…

Rubbish atta king stats for both of them. GLC has the mitigation that he's probably best played a CM and not an attacker.

I suppose you could argue Lamela was best played as a defensive right winger. [emoji28]

That’s a combined spend of £80m on those two or arguably £100m with footy inflation
Scary really

I think Lo celso could be a good player and has shown that in patches. However, we need someone in midfield that we can rely on to consistently provide creativity and that will never be Lo Celso. He's had too many injuries to ever to be considered a player that will play 30+league games a season.

We should have signed James Ward Prowse and James Milner, rather than Carlos Fandango and Juan Kickaballo
Don't you mean Carlos Ndango and Johnny Lo Fitness?

But yes, either of them would do a job at Spurs. Just the type of player we never seem to sign.
