Davinson Sanchez

I think if we got a 'young vertoghen' (cultured, left sided and with a bit of pace) type in in place of rodon, we'd have really good strength and balance across our 6 CB options

Would be nice we have to make a call on Rodon as clearly we don’t want to play him and he needs a change for his own career

I agree we should only add first 11 players but I’d argue they have to be in areas we are weak…. Like attack where we have 1 striker and 2 supporting strikers.

and Davies has been a revelation for us playing in a 3.

This goes way off topic, but hey...

I don't think we should necessarily buy only first 11 players. For positions/roles where we don't have adequate cover a backup/rotation option would make us significantly stronger. Buying a player like that should preferably be a young player with proper potential for the future though.

The key is getting players that fit the system, fit into roles where we need either a rotation option or a new first choice player.

Not necessarily in order of importance, but a striker, RWB, LCB and a midfielder should be the priorities.

Striker, RWB and LCB are the positions/roles where I think even a rotation option (with potential) could make real difference. Midfielder would probably have to be more of a first team player to make a difference.

Agree fully. No idea who that should be given we probably can't time warp the great Vertonghen. But someone with his skillset would be really good, even if he wasn't actually as good right away as the original.

I think the order you have is right
Striker priority 1, RWB priority 2, LCB priority 3.
we have to get another striker in as we have 1.
We have RWBs but their is a drop off although I’ll add that Doherty played well mid week
LCB we don’t have a leg footed defender who can play there other than Davies so I agree it’s a nice to have
There are others who think we need a CM but I’d wait to see Sarr first otherwise we end up with a possible Clarke situation.

Agreed. We're finding solutions in central midfield with both Winks and Alli at the very least. I'll add solutions that kook promising right now, may change in the coming weeks, but for now there's potential there.

The other positions not so much. Doherty has done alright, but he's not a great fit for this system imo. And a proper attacking full back would be a very different and great option to have.

He has had a few good games now on the bounce and seems more confident in himself
This always helps players. It's very difficult to play a few minutes here and there especially at this level. Most players need a run of games to start showing form and a coach who is prepared to take a risk on them. It's also no coincidence that with Skipp sitting in front of them both Dier and Sanchez are looking good again.

Looking for a young player is the old 90s mindset. We need a player that can come in and immediately deliver. An international that has played CL multiple times and been at the top of his league.
Good players only hang around a few years now, there is no sentiment or point in trying to bed in some kid and suffer their mistakes for 3 years whilst they develop.
Conte will only be here a moment, we need to get an international with CL experience who is top notch. THAT is how we move up into the top 3.

He was world class
Just people didn’t see it at the time unless they were spurs fans

A football mind as sharp as Tactics Tim didn't see it at all even up to the end. How he can be paid to talk about football and talk how he did about Jan beggars belief.

But then again, he did discover and make Harry Kane so his footballing genius is beyond question.

That was exactly the profile of Verts when we signed him a decade ago

And I definitely agree with the world class tag. Alongside King, he's simply the best defender we've had in the modern age

Some names as examples?

I'm not talking about signing 17 year olds, more early twenties players that are already good, but with the potential to really step up over a season or two.

The approach that got us quite a few of our excellent players in recent years.

Maybe we're talking about the same kind of players. Top of their league level in a smaller league, some CL experience.

If you're talking about top of their league in big 3/5 leagues, CL performances. We'll be going toe to toe with the richest clubs around with that strategy. One, maybe two of those if possible, sure.
