Dele Alli

He played there fIrst 3 games under Nuno and was IMO very good

was just thinking about this. He played with Hojbjerg and Skipp (at least against Watford as i recall), but remarkable how different his performance was yesterday vs Liverpool than vs Watford under Nuno. Turns out, coaching makes a big difference, who knew?

I’m going to miss him. I’m going to miss the song. I can’t understand how someone with his skill can let himself be distracted by anything outside of football. He has been living my dream. But then, I can’t get into the mindset knickers of a 25 year old multi millionaire model.
FTFY.

Like the old spurs way. What took him so long to get it right? Surely it can't be just the managers. Can he sustain and improve this form? What if he hits another dry run.... Would it be years again? So many questions...In my view it's great he has shown his old form, at the same time I feel betrayed that he didn't show up for too long!

I think some people forget that he actually started really well for Mourinho... The problem came when both Kane and Son got injured, the club kept the chequebook closed and then Mourinho shoved Dele up front as the least bad option.

Maybe
People think players become crap but for some it’s a multitude of issues
Dele isnt fixed but yesterday I thought he was very good at times and less so at others. That’s dele
What we do know is that run into the box for the save from sons pass was pure dele… as was the ball over the top to him from Dier that he passed to Kane for (weak pass though when he IMO should have shot)
I know it's hard to believe but I think that pass might actually have been from Sanchez!?! (though I'll admit to having had a few pre match beers, topped up by one at half time!).... Also passing to Kane was absolutely the right option there. The pass wasn't executed well, it bobbled off Dele's ankle, but even so Kane should still have scored and could've done so by either lifting his shot or just taking the ball round the left of the keeper who had already committed to diving right before the ball reached Kane.

Probably more tactics than coaching (maybe you could argue they are the same thing?).... Nuno was playing a 4-3-3. Conte a 3-5-2. In Nuno's 4-3-3 the midfield weren't really given license to get themselves forward into the box, in Conte's formation yesterday it was clear that Dele had been given license to get himself up and even beyond the 2 strikers when we were in possession.

Which pass
The one dele poorly laid to Kane was from Dier 100%
Sanchez did also try some longer passes

Ah yeah - my mistake, I got the two confused.

If we keep on playing this same formation with Dele staying in the team then I think we'll see him get himself back in the goals/assists very soon as it is really hard for defenders to defend those out to in runs he makes.... The centre backs are having to deal with Kane and Son, which means the opposition's full back has to try to track Dele, who typically has the advantage of being inside the fullback so has a clear line to the goal.

Don’t know if you have an athletic subscription but as I said on the other thread he does a great analysis of the way dele and winks played

Although both him and Winks played well, we need to sell and replace both of them otherwise we're in the same recycle cycle

Depends. Both have been good before, both have been poor before.

Is it more the system and other circumstances that have made them poor? Or have they lost what they once had that made both very good players in the past?

For me those questions haven't been answered. More games are needed. Perhaps Conte already feels he knows enough, if so trust his judgement. If not, well, wait and see.

Is this is the new benchmark both are good enough to keep around.

Alli was excellent yesterday, just needed to stick that chance away. I think this needs to be kept in perspective though, it’s one good performance in about 2 years. Needs to do it far, far more consistently if we’re even considering keeping him.

Pretty much how i see it as well, he was good yesterday but i need to see him like that on a regular basis which is something he has failed to do for the last couple of seasons. If we get offers we should consider them. imo
