Dele Alli

Which is why we’d be better off keeping Dele and selling Lo Celso (assuming we could find a club that would want him).

They both need to go. I get some people rate players higher than others, but I’m honestly baffled that people still stuck up for Alli. He has been ineffective for years for the last five managers (including Conte). How many more chances do we need to give him before we pull the plug? He’s fallen way down the pecking order for club and country. We can’t even use the excuse any more that it’s down to Jose as he’s long gone.

I would keep Lo Celso and see if he can finally get/keep fit as i believe the talent is there. But could not agree more about Alli he has done nothing for a long time now.

What talent does Lo Celso have that Dele doesn’t? (Other than a rare talent of being incredibly injury prone).

Dele absolutely needs to go but the first player we sell in the whole squad should be Lo Celso as he has no attributes that indicate he can be a top 6 level PL player. No pace, no physicality, average level of skill, incredibly one footed, not particularly creative, not positionally disciplined, doesn’t really create or score goals.

Better close control, better at going past players, better penetrative passing, better passing overall. Actually playing well as a central midfielder for a period, more versatile in terms of roles he can play.

There's quality in Lo Celso, you don't get to be a regular starter in a fairly attacking role for Argentina without it. Question with him as for Alli is if he fits into the Conte system, if he does it's up to him to prove that he can play well enough and stay fit/injury free enough of the time.

On Alli, there's a player there, I'm sure of it. Wouldn't be surprised if he did well after a move. Don't see him as a natural fit under Conte at the moment at least. He needs his role, his position to thrive. Gone a bit sour overall here for him. A fresh start seems like the best for everyone involved.

For him I hope if he gets a move it's a move to a club with a plan to play him in his preferred role.

People seem to have short memories when it comes to Lo Celso, and with his injury record that’s a little understandable. But there was a good period when he was fit and one of our best players. Unfortunately since then he has been injured more often than he is fit. That is the only reason he should be considered to be sold, nothing to do with his footballing ability. Dele is a completely different ball game….

He had a breif spell at the end of Mourinhos first season where he showed promise and was arguably our best performing player, otherwise he's looked bang average to me. At least with Ndombele he regularly shows glimpses of talent and an ability to change games.

Fair enough, each to their own. Personally I’ve seen plenty of glimpses with Lo Celso but plenty of disappointment too. And the one time he’s had a run of games injury free is the time he was like you say our best performing player. But injuries are clearly a factor here, if they are going to be a constant then we are best to cut our losses…..

That’s how I see it, he stood out in Mourinho’s first season with his work rate and ability to carry the ball, but I still wasn’t sure if he had enough end product to be a true box to box player, since then the injuries and positions he has been playing seem to have taken his engine away which makes him look even less effective. Reminds me of Bergwijn actually, they both a reasonable technique, have been and out of the side with lots of different injuries and without any outstanding pace or power the fact they brick the bed when they get in the box just makes them offer little as we already have more combative water carriers and we need more output from whoever is playing in their positions.

This is the Spurs way we are too used to not winning. Enic has had a big influence in cementing this mentality with the fans.

He grew in confidence as the game went on
His stats are very very good
IMO wonder if his extra work in the summer may have helped him out now if did get ill (no idea if he did get a COVID)
But I’m certain that extra work ha solid off with his running as we saw today

He seemed more settled today. Like he knew what his job was. If he can play like that he will make and score goals. He’ll probably never be the most efficient- he needs to be able to try stuff - but he is creative in his movement and play. He’s also tenacious and adds some bite.

said it on another thread - he actually showed up today. He will benefit from Winks playing through balls like today, and from Kane actually staying up top, which creates the space in the No10 position for him to exploit. No sense in having Dele in the team if H is going to drop deep and fill that space.

Like the old spurs way. What took him so long to get it right? Surely it can't be just the managers. Can he sustain and improve this form? What if he hits another dry run.... Would it be years again? So many questions...In my view it's great he has shown his old form, at the same time I feel betrayed that he didn't show up for too long!

The way we played fits his style of play, playing in the whole behind the strikers making them delayed runs. We almost saw a Dele esc when he took the diagonal ball with his chest.
