U23s, Academy and Loanees

Including a lovely free kick

It was an excellent performance. Leicester scored early and had the upper hand early on but from the midpoint of the first half onwards it was all us. We really had Leicester on the ropes at times.

Lots of good performances but I thought that Clarke played very well and he'll probably get overlooked.

He's the best freekick player at the club, been doing it since u16, mate tells me Clarke has been very good this season.

He is indeed.

I have heard good reports on Clarke this season, he's been decent the handful of times that I have seen him. Hopefully, he gets a decent loan in January and can stay fit this time. I did wonder whether he might have an outside chance of making the squad for Thursday

I saw yesterday that we are willing to loan out Markanday in January with Bournemouth one of the clubs interested. I think that him playing for Parker would be good.

I would chuck him the first team for the next month.

But then a loan would be good.

I’m hoping a new contract for him is on the verge of being signed. A Championship loan for White would also be good I think. Clarke has also really stepped things up for under 23s this season.

I hope so. I hope that Clarke and White get loans in January too. Clarke could do with a bit of luck this time, I really feel for him and how the last three years have gone.

Wouldnt hurt having him on bench for certain home games, in the unlikely event we were in a comfortable position could give him a run.

I think that's fine as long as it doesn't stop him getting games for the U23s. I think that being part of the first team squad can be damaging when a player goes ages without getting any games, like what happened with KWP.

And playing in a struggling first team which gets booed off probably won’t do a youngsters development much good either.

I really don't think that he's ready for first team football with us. He needs to spend a few seasons in the lower leagues.

Markanday looks massively over-hyped to me though with the massive caveat that its not like I've not seen him in dozens of full games. Its a high bar to make it as a PL player and for us and not sure that he's particuarly close to that level; would be better for him and other promising players to be loaned out IMO.

If someone is not making the first team squad regularly for European/domestic cup games at 20 years old then I see little benefit to him staying. A loan spell and playing in men's football would surely be more beneficial than playing in the U23s. I get the argument about us likely having better coaches, but I think thats more relevant for players say 18 and younger....but the time they hit 20/21 and not really close to the first team squad, then I think they need to go out

He is two footed, skilful, has lovely balance, carries the ball really well, has an eye for a pass and is a good finisher. There is hype because he has lots of things that might mean he can become a top level footballer.

Every young player is different and you cannot apply a formula like the one you suggested above. Markanday was very small and not particularly strong until growing taller and stronger in the last year or so. A lower league loan in seasons prior to this one would likely have done more harm than good as he may well have been bullied on the pitch.
