Sick sick world what is wrong with people

Boris is saying the cabbie is a hero and locked the doors and averted disaster... but lots of taxis have locked doors until you pay, so maybe the cabbie did nothing really?

Bit of a strange one. I wonder what happened, the fact that they went and arrested people in their homes makes you think they were known to the police. Bang on 11am on remembrance Sunday as well.

Damn right it's strange. Blowing yourself up in a taxi as it approaches a hospital hardly seems the most well thought through terrorist attack. Didn't even kill the cabbie. If only all suicide bombers could so accommodating.

Very strange one. Seems there is often a 'terrorist attack' when the government are doing poorly in the polls. As if they need a law and order boost to their ratings or something.

Also, hero cabbie? Why the hell stop outside the hospital? What would the bomber do if you drove even just 25 yards further to the other side of the roundabout or even not to the hospital anyway? The doors were locked, the bomber wasn't going anywhere and presumably if the cabbie had known he had a bomb he thought he was going to die whatever.

It is reported the taxi driver locked the door from the outside. But they also said in the news this morning he was a hero just for surviving. I think the word hero does get used to much.

I very much doubt the bomber said 'take me to the hospital, I'm going to explode a bomb' - the driver probably had no idea what was going to happen until the last second - maybe the bomber said something, maybe the driver saw something in his rear-view mirror. But what you can see is that an explosion happened just at the point the taxi was drawing to a halt. I don't think the driver can be criticised for anything here.
There's also been mixed accounts as to whether the taxi doors were locked or not. From what I could see from the news, it was a mini-cab rather than a black cab. Black cabs can isolate and lock the back doors - I don't know if all mini cabs can do the same. (If any mini-cab I was in locked the doors I'd ask to be let straight out, but that's just a personal safety thing).

From what I've read the driver saw the explosives at the last minute so locked the doors and jumped out and the terrorist blew himself up
The driver is a hero end of

.

That’s quite seriously nonsensical. Even the supposed correlation is spurious: for a start, governments are usually doing badly in the polls, because they poll at their highest following victories.

This isn't true and doesn't make sense; the bomb went off well before he jumped out

Either the taxi was a 'proper' black cab which locks the doors during the trip, to avoid people doing a runner... or the taxi was just a normal car with the usual "central locking" which the terrorist would disable by pulling the door handle as on all cars?
Not looking for an argument, but I don't understand how he is a hero "end of" as it looks like he just got a bomb in the back of the head and legged it?

As some on here might remember but I was a a cabbie in Chichester for a couple of years and I can say hand on heart if I were that cabbie I would be suing the deceased estate for the fare and damage of the vehicle.

Whoever makes that driver's seat probably feels pretty chuffed with themselves though.

Yes. It’s the flip side of calling people “cowards” when they have the fanatical courage to blow themselves up in pursuit of a cause.

I'm really weirdly rocked by this female tennis star story. We all should have freedom and the fact she hasn't in order to as little as text someone to confirm she is safe is hugely concerning.

Jack Ma and Ai Wei-wei never had the chance to text anyone either. She'll hopefully be released speedly once the Chinese authorities have taken her through the re-education program.

I reckon in 30 years time the are going to be so many movies made by people who eventually escaped, telling us what went wrong there.

Whilst what’s happened to Shuai is terrible, at least it’s shone a light on the CPC’s appalling human rights record and hopefully more people will stop buying cheap crap made by Chinese slave labour.
