Saudi Sportswashing Machine

I dunno mate, there's a lot of people even on this board that disagree vehemently. It isn't just about the Trust - as I've argued in the past, a fan-owned club can be run just as well or better than we are now, since what happens in Germany is that the fan-elected board just hires a chairman and sometimes a DoF to manage the club, and leaves them to it. Some of their chairmen are leagues ahead of the likes of Levy - Hans-Joachim Watzke et al. So, it's not like we'd be run by the Trust.

Yet, most of the time the folks I speak to are just quizzical about the prospect that they can have stakes in the club they love. I dunno why. One of my hopes is that the fan-led review of the game at least normalizes discussion of golden shares and other ownership models to begin wresting control away from the crooks and morally bankrupt billionaires who run the clubs now.

I assume they're thinking about TV rights. Saudi-funded Saudi Sportswashing Machine buys Mbappe, wins the league, City competes by buying more good players, Chelsea does the same, other clubs are forced to follow just to stay competitive, and the league hoovers up talent from the rest of Europe and becomes so dominant even Madrid, Barca et al can't compete. Which drives TV rights - many millions of folks would be happy to watch a league with all the best players in it even if it's only ever won by, say, Saudi Sportswashing Machine and City.
TV is only appealing if the game is competitive
It’s why the prem does better than other leagues for TV, as it’s always competitive ish…
Now it won’t be

Eh. It just puts into clearer focus what a dereliction of duty it was to make the best manager we've had in 50 years work with peanuts and shoe strings when we had a real, genuine chance to break into that top grouping. That was our shot - a bit of investment would have done it. A bit of investment was the difference between Klopp and Poch, between FSG's Liverpool and us at the peak of our powers in those years.

We cheaped out, we fell behind, and it will be ever so slightly harder to get back in now with the Saudis around hoovering up players. That was our shot, and it is galling how much Levy and Lewis' parsimony killed our dreams then - we went 18 months without a single signing when one or two was maybe all we needed. Sickening, honestly.

And it will keep getting harder as more sportswashing billionaires trying to hide the blood in their past show up, because the model is still appealing and will keep working, imo. While we' re saddled with the magnificent ENIC duo sucking the hopes out of this club - Joe Lewis, tax exile billionaire in the Bahamas who made his money shorting the pound on Black Wednesday and prefers buying art to bothering about us, and Dan Levy, his henchman.

None of this is inevitable - we can dream of different, but this lot have to go first. No other way around it.
Didn't I say the same thing. A whole season without buying a single player the season we get CL final was unbunbelievable. Anyway lol....

Might still take them a few years to get up there, They will need to churn through a few fancy managers and some Robinho and Balotelli type signings before they fully settle in the top 4. Just a shame we didn't manage to pick up a trophy or two while we had a chance, as it's only going to get more and more difficult going forward.

Let's be honest, it's just a matter of time before this happens to us as well. It might be 5 or 10 years, but the big dirty money will come, and it will make us rich and simultaneously ruin football. Best regards, legacy fan.

Doubt it unless we lose a lot of value. £300m to buy Saudi Sportswashing Machine. That leaves £1.7bn, to cost them the same as it would be to buy spurs.

If anyone buys us it will probably be Glazers mk 2. Everything is already in place to make a ton of money for anyone who can get the deal financed. That means American hedge funds or Chinese investment funds or anything else that means rich people getting richer by moving money around.

It will also mean them wanting to make their money back. So won't really leave us better off than enic.

How wont it be? We have one more fun club in the race ... dont tell me anyone outside of the manchester clubs, chelsea or liverpool and now Saudi Sportswashing Machine have a chance ... its more competitive than ever at the top ... the rest of us plebs have to pick up the scraps turning our noses up at the carling cup or whatever its called or avoid relegation.

I think one of the best solutions for us fans would be ENIC selling off their shares in smaller portions over time. Finding a buyer for the whole thing will be almost impossible, especially if you want to take things like the buyer's background or how the deal is financed into consideration. Don't think much will happen until either Joe Lewis passes or puts his heir(s) in charge.

What makes me angry is how all the pundits who were against the ESL are now saying how great this is.

Shearer “A very special day for the fans”. What?, to be taken over by a mass murdering, homophobic, woman killing dictator (that’s not even an exaggeration).

Genuinely glad it’s not us though.

I haven’t paid this too much attention. I like Saudi Sportswashing Machine as a club and city but this is just another lottery win and this time with more horrible bastards included. Sickens me a bit to be honest.

But was driving yesterday and the sports report said this will be an investment rather than a vanity project. They were reporting that as fact. If so, I don’t understand why everyone is so excited. Have the new owners indicated something different?

Depends whether it's a pure sportswashing attempt or if they're trying to build up this fund for when oil no longer returns the same profits it does today. Nobody can say for sure just yet.

It has taken 4 or 5 years for her to raise the cash for this, went to Qataris and Abu Dhabi first. This is not a Emirates Marketing Project or Chelsea MK2 this is a really cheap access point to a league that offers lucrative contracts like the TV money etc, the deal pays for itself.

She is a chancer, mark my words on that

I really like Saudi Sportswashing Machine but it would be sexy-on-steroids if this lot turned out to be chancers and worse than Mike Ashley. I'd tinkle myself.
