Nuno Espírito Santo - Sacked

distance covered is bound to be lower with our tactics. We retreat into a compact shape
We didn’t retreat today. We have them 5 yards and didn’t press. We held our positions
What we didn’t do was run with our me. When they broke. Every goal was scored from them running more and faster. They can’t score on the counter of were not attacking (poorly)
It was lazy

Teams that don’t press have run more than us
Teams that play long ball have run more than us
Teams who are woeful by prem standards have run more than us
There is a real lack of work in that side regardless of tactics
It’s why when skipp comes on we look better as someone actually runs in CM

feel free to see if you can find something else - but a quick google came up with this

wolves are low on this for running stats as well

I thought he'd at least sort the defence, Mourinho for all his faults went negative and in the first half of the season at least we had a good defensive record but 3 3-0 losses on the trot plus the loss in the conference league and letting in 2 goals in the other game and 2 more against Wolves. Absolutely shocking defensive record.

What I saw though, and neville mentioned is that we seemed to be going long from the start. We then conceded, and kept going long. Surely we could see that wasn't working. We only played a bit better when we had it on the deck. But then 2 nil down and effectively game over heads dropped.

Even at 3-1 (when I switched it back on) we didn't appear to be going for it. Unless we were going for it a bit earlier, it seems we lack the mental fight to come back into a match. Slow, slow, slow passing.

Its not enjoyable Football, but is it the players or is it tactics. Surely if it isn't working can't the players just say fudge it let's play a different way whilst they are on the pitch?

Seems willing to accept his share of the responsibility.

Will be interesting to see what he changes going forward. And how the players respond to this.
It’s just words though, he was saying this wasn’t how he wanted us to play after the first few 1 nil wins as well. Jose said he didn’t want us to sit back after scoring the first goal yet we always did. Saying something and knowing how to fix it are different things.

I think we we were trying to pass short in the first five, but gave it away repeatedly and quickly gave up.

Our buildup play from the back has pretty much been the same all season.

If the players were capable of sorting this out themselves while on the pitch we wouldn't have this problem.

Those words, two subs at half time, a decent response in the second half.

I don't know if Nuno will find the answers, but it seems clear he understands that part of this is on him.

And this is the killer. Neither Levy nor the fans will accept turgid football unless we're flying high in the league and winning trophies

Would fans accept lots of turgid 1-0 wins and CL football? Yes, I'm sure they would, as would levy
Would fans accept the same and finishing 5/6th and winning trophies? Yes, again fans and Levy would

But Nuno's style of play will mean he's toast without that success...its not as if we're losing Ardiles style 5-4 games. Nuno's days are numbers if he doesn't improve things quickly. I think he's got perhaps 5-6 league games...potentially fewer if the defeats keep coming. Lose the next 2-3 and I think he's gone

Skipp would be one of the first names I’d have on the team sheet. Last week when he came on v Chelsea, he busted a nut and put in a couple of great tackles as the rest were giving up. I believe he was excellent v Wolves and today he gave a brick.

I’d also have Tanganga CB.

Maybe this needs a Poch style “tear it all up and start again moment.” If it does, Kane and Alli are the two most in danger for me. It seems incredible to even think that about the pair of them given how key they were to our rise under Poch.

After Nunos interview today, it’ll be very interesting to see what he does next Sunday. He was basically saying that either his system was wrong or the players selected were not capable of carrying out his instructions/system.

That hints at big changes next week or it’s all just words. There was similar talk before we played Villa last year under Jose but, as I recall, while there were changes, they weren’t wholesale. If we show up with the same brick next week and lose, it’ll become harder to make a case for Nuno.

For alli we have other players
We have no other Kane though and there are no other goals there
I genuinely believe dele isn’t a bad apple but is a square peg
Tanguy… whole different league of issues

And that’s key
Same again…. Poor calls
Less life’s
Changes… he can earn credit

It's definitely the players - it's been the players for almost two years now but out of the last three managers we've had, Santo's system is certainly the worst. We're way too narrow and flat, particularly in midfield. I'm guessing the idea is for our CM to move wide when they receive the ball but the result is absolutely abject.

When we try to go through the middle, we can't play between the lines. Usually one of our forwards drops a little deeper but then, the other two can't find any space - again, because of our narrow set-up. And when they try to combine down the flanks, we don't have anyone except Kane's lookalike to head the ball in. Regardless of their heading ability, we just don't have enough bodies in the box to be a threat from crosses.

All in all, it doesn't make up for a very pretty picture. Apparently, he was pleased with what we did in the first three games but it's quite obvious that we couldn't keep that kind of run going with these performances. We're lucky to have 9 points.

Maybe he should drop a couple of players but I think this squad's rotten. Quite frankly, it's difficult to image that these are the same Kane and Son who looked unstoppable a year ago...

The apparent fall with Kane and son is even more bizarre than the dier - dele cooling.

Wow
I don’t remember so I’ll apologise
I was quite happy with Fonseca
I said in January I wanted potter and only @StephenH jumped on that one

I was on the Potter train too tbf and quite against Nuno, though once he was appointed i allowed myself to see the potential positives - he may still come good, but unless he picks up the short term results he won't get the chance to show it
