Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

That's nothing to do with how the cow is farmed, that's people lacking self control.

That was one example. And plenty of humans have gotten sick and/or died as a result of our needless desire for animal flesh and their secretions. Again, how they are kept and the conditions they are left in certainly factor in that. Alongside this, zoonotic disease outbreaks (generally occurring as a result of using animals for food source) have resulted in multi-millions of deaths.

I doubt Jim Davidson ever knew what a vegan is, let alone came up with a joke about them.

Plenty of others do ridicule veganism though, with good reason.

You’re absolutely correct, there are plenty of ignorant, uneducated and insecure men (mainly) who ridicule veganism. Thankfully they are growing smaller in numbers as the world itself becomes more educated.

I did vegan for a bit, it was ruined by the invention of vegan cheese, now it’s in fudging everything.

I have a dairy allergy, cheese makes me violently ill, my body is now so well trained to avoid it that I get a psychosomatic response to things pretending to be cheese too.

some vegan cheese is absolutely rank. I’d rather not have than have an alternative. However some of the nut-based cheeses on offer now are spectacular. I don’t think they’d help your response to anything cheese-like though!

You're talking about tiny, almost non-existent numbers again.

How many people do you think die a year in the UK from zoonotic diseases?

It's not the veganism that's a problem (anthough it is ridiculous in itself), it's the vegans.

I barely know you yet I know you're a vegan. That's pretty much always the case.

Also, Moby is a vegan.

You could count up the number of people who have died in this current pandemic, if you believe how it is reported to have started. Why don’t you start a dedicated thread on veganism and we can discuss this and other related topics around it. In the meantime, thank you for engaging and bringing a neat segway into some great, informative viewing for people who are interested in understanding more about the effects of animal agriculture to our health, other species and the planet :)

I’d probably just be less of a snowflake about it and carry on with my day if I was in your position.

I try.

Unfortunately I have an overwhelming urge to ridicule the ridiculous. And, even as someone who supports the reasoning, you have to admit that vegans are ridiculous "people"

You're right, you probably could, still a small number. That's a good example of my consumer choice point. Wet markets don't exist in the UK because people want a higher standard. That's not because of regulation (although I'm sure they would fall foul of a number of other regs) but because there's no demand.

why don’t you list what you find ridiculous about people wanting to cause the least harm possible to oneself, other living beings and the environment. You might find it quite cathartic.

You’re focusing purely on deaths. Do other ailments relating to meat and dairy consumption (both contaminated and uncontaminated) not exist in Gosport?

Again, down to a lack of self control.

There's all kinds of disease all over Gosport. Best avoided in general in case one were to catch poverty.

Don’t talk smack about where you live. It’s unbecoming. I would suggest an environment where animals are living on top of other dead carcasses, their and others own brick in completely contaminated areas with no care for regulations, could cause health issues for anyone who consumes that flesh. I’ve highlighted a couple of documentaries above that show this and explain the cause and effect in good detail. I appreciate this is something you haven’t experienced so your world view is based on what Auntie Glenda has told you.

I haven't said a word, honestly!

Not eating meat, not eating dairy.

The harm to oneself is just nonsense. Most of the fittest and healthiest people are not vegans, they just have self control. It's a common trait of vegans to compare groups with preselection bias (those who already care about their health but are misguided in their methods) with all others, including all the fat clams who spend their days eating Iceland food and Greg's.

The harm to animals issue is just personal preference. Cows are tasty, so I eat cows - there's no need for it to be any more complex than that. For someone who claims to care about animals, you clearly haven't thought through what would happen to the cow population if we were all vegans. You're essentially cow Hitler, promoting methods that would destroy their population.

Have you seen Gosport? It makes Tottenham look like Mayfair. Most of the residents have clearly spent more on Halfords chav additions to their cars than they have their houses.

I'm sure you would imagine that, but tens of millions of people in this country eat meat every day and cases of foodborne illnesses are very rare - deaths almost non-existent.

So either those methods are sufficient to protect against illness or the risk is smaller than you think it is.

I knew you wouldn’t have a valid answer.

But to your point about what will happen to cows. I hear this a lot amongst the plebeians. Do you honestly think the world would go plant-based overnight and we’d have billions of cows roaming around? Of course not. It would be a transition and cows would slowly cease to exist as a food source. Poor effort.

start a veganism thread and we can discuss more. Otherwise you’re just the same mundane, middle-aged, insecure chap that frequents the internet whining about things that don’t fit your tiny world view. I know you don’t like social media but you’d really fit in on Twitter. You can even add little flags to your username and everything

So you are advocating a plan that results in a significant cut to the cow population?

CowHitler.
