Emerson Royal

To be honest i thought he looked ok yesterday, playing against Chelski ( who i think could win the title this season) was not the easiest game for him and there is talent there hope he can show that as the season goes on.

I thought he was ok too. His pace meant that he was able to block that chance from Mount in the first half, and he made a couple clearing headers which were useful.

I thought his reactions were a bit slow though, or put another way he should have anticipated things a bit quicker. That can come with experience though

Indeed he is still a kid trying to adjust to a different country and a much harder league. Time will tell but we have to give him that time to see if he can/will.

Royal seemed ok yesterday, early days etc.

How attacking is he? I haven't really seen much of him before the signing, the obligatory YouTube video of course, he seems very reluctant to get forward so far, not his style or more that he's likely under instructions not to?
I think he'll be fine when attacking with the right players around him. Don't think he has great skill to go past players with any real consistency, nor is he a kind of playmaker with great passing range or variety of passes. Solid enough at the basics though, if we can set up one two situations, triangles, combination play he should be fine in attack too.

Good athleticism will hopefully allow him to get up and down the pitch well and be a threat through that when more settled and given freedom to do so.

Very early to judge him and I think he has looked OK so far so plenty of time and room to grow

Having said that, i agree with some of the fair analysis of his technique and physical attributes by @braineclipse and others. Therefore 30m from a Barca side that apparently were desperate to sell to balance their books seems less of a bargain and us pulling their pants down, then it does them getting a fair or even good price for him.

So it brings up the question of our DOF did he get any bargains in a buyers market?

I think he's a functional signing, immediate solution with real potential. Might be seen as a bit of a bargain in time, but not by a massive amount (world class full back would be twice of what we paid, so even if he gets to that level it's hardly a bargain and he might not get to that level). I think short term needs won out on this signing, and that's absolutely, completely fine and vital to get right.

I think players like Sarr and Gil are the one's with the potential to be seen as real bargains in the future.

Don't you think posts and conclusions such as this would best be discussed at least after December?

Even with Gill we payed quite a hefty price for him based on potential rather than immediate impact, Which is fine, desirable even, as I absolutely want us to invest in potential for the future, but again we are paying for potential, so I'm not sure that he could be described as a bargain not for 35m. That price means to me at least, he would actually have to turn out to be World class in the next few years to justify calling him a bargain.

Sarr I have absolutely no idea about. Liked his youtube clips though.

Harsh. Ask an Atleti fan about Joao Felix at £113m

Foyth conceded 2 pens on his league debut for us, Aurier got sent off for 2 yellows. Difficult to pick a winner there really.
I’d argue a sending off for an experienced player is very bad
Both ended 3-2 wins weirdly
Could be argued Auriers actual debut was ok (vs Dortmund IIRC)
How long after his debut was Aurier doing the foul throws? They were bed West Ham weren’t they?
