International Coronaball

Who can afford to send a host of international players abroad on multiple private jets in these economically challenged times? I applaud Ancelotti's sensible thinking.

fifa is xpanding the teams in the WC anyway, at some point there will be no qualifying and these pointless international breaks, lets have a FA cup format, cream always rises to the top, right

Lots of very confusing reports about why the game was allowed to start before the officials acted.

It perhaps should be noted that knowing the rules Brazil called up something like 7-8 PL-based players and got angry when they weren't released. Then they complained about the clubs being unfair and breaking FIFA rules, nothing about covid travel restrictions. A cynic might think they go upset when Argentina players were available.

The Telegraph is reporting that Spurs will fine our duo for travelling without permission. All the reporting I saw before the game suggested that we and Villa weren't following the PL ban.

In addition to missing their sides' weekend games, Chelsea defender Thiago Silva and Manchester United midfielder Fred will also not be allowed to play in their teams' opening Champions League games against Zenit St Petersburg and Young Boys next Tuesday.

However, it is understood Brazil have not asked for Everton forward Richarlison to be prevented from featuring against Burnley on Monday. It is felt Brazil showed leniency in that specific case as Everton allowed Richarlison to play at the Olympic Games when the regulations did not force them to.

The move also affects three Liverpool players, Roberto Firmino, Fabinho and Alisson; Emirates Marketing Project pair Ederson and Gabriel Jesus; and Leeds forward Raphinha, who had been called into the Brazil squad for the first time.

It means eight Premier League clubs will be denied players this weekend after previous moves from the Mexico, Paraguay and Chile football federations to stop Raul Jimenez, Miguel Almiron and Francisco Sierralta from playing this weekend.

It is understood the clubs have been notified of the situation by Fifa and are now considering the situation.

Negotiations are continuing behind the scenes and it is understood the Premier League clubs do not regard this as a fait accompli.

Watch the impacted PL teams getting this overturned, whilst our players are still doing their keep fit in Croatia.

So Brazil invoke the ban on players who weren't released so they could travel to Brazil and not be allowed to play by the Brazilian health authorities.

It does rather confirm that the match was stopped because Argentina had players released rather than any serious health concern.
