Coronavirus

Or buy food in a supermarket? Go to the doctors?

The great barrington declaration sounded good but would not work in practice.

We are not in the same position we were though. There may be vulnerable that cannot get a vaccine and we should do all we can to help them. But other than that we move on.

Did see boris threatening vaccine passports for nightclubs today. Guess he saw what macron did and the amount of people that refused the jab suddenly change their minds. Hopefully it will be a kick up the arse for some.
As with the original lockdown there were people who could not go out to shops. Others helped either as family or good Samaritans - deliveries are available.

Plenty had to isolate and got by - this would be no different except with the personal choice and freedom for those that did not need to.

Yes it was a great success. Apart from the thousands dying and worse death rate in europe.

Edit - technically belgium were worse cause they counted nearly everything as a covid death.

So clubs are fully open now when many people (and those most likely to visit) aren't fully vaccinated but from Sept you'll need to be double vaccinated to go to a club...

Logical. o_O

Because 20 year olds have only just been offered vaccinations. By the end of september they will be double jabbed. Otherwise it's unfair on the young. They'd be banned through no fault of their own.

Does seem a bit bizarre not to make masks mandatory in some key areas people can't avoid like shops, public transport etc. Not really a big deal to wear them in those areas if it helps and makes others feel safe.

Ok, you're at work. Don't wear a mask, no social distancing. Lunch you go to a restaraunt, same. You go pub after, same. You go nightclub, grind a total stranger, snog someone else. You get the bus home and have to wear a mask?

Can understand the union asking for it to protect their drivers. Although they aint going to enforce it.

The whole point of freedom day is we no longer need to worry about everyone out there, just balance and manage your own risks.

Have a great summer.

Dominic Cummings is hanging Bojo out to dry now. Given the UK's population is ageing, dismissing the lives of the over 80s as not important, will really help seal his fate in the next election.

Watching Johnson squirm at the future public inquiry is going to be excellent.

He’ll probably be giving evidence in front of one of his old school pals in robe and wig, though - and he’ll have chosen who it is.

Another day, another brickshow. Excellent use of £37 billion of public funds to create a poorly-functioning app which just gives advice, according to this morning’s news.

And since when was apparent evidence that a peacetime PM was willing to create a situation in which a significant section of his citizens may die not grounds for investigation of a criminal offence?

Remember when everyone laughed at Trump? That’s now the rest of the world when looking at us.

I don't like to speak for @P.D., but I'd imagine restaurants, pubs and nightclubs didn't feature in the list of

This is it, key areas - I'm happy with the rest of the unlocking, it's much needed but I don't see it as a big deal to help people feel more comfortable in a small number of areas.

All that will happen is people will drive more and clog up the roads, continue ordering online instead of helping the high street and local businesses and in a few months they'll probably be back as mandatory in those areas anyway.

We were talking about protection from one jab yesterday. Sky puts the protection against severe illness from the delta variant at 80%. This means the amount of people that would get severe illness from covid is cut by 80% after 1 jab (not 20% would get severe illness).

If it was only over 80's dying we shouldn't have locked down (we know that wasn't the case though).

The massive fudgeups were:
Not realising this could be airbourne.
Not realising there could be asymptomatic cases.
Not testing people sent from hospitals to carehomes.
Not testing carehome staff.
Not testing people going into hospital.
Not utilising the nightingale hospitals to use for covid patients and leaving hospitals covid free.
Not banning flights from china as soon as we realised there was a problem.
Not testing people coming into the country.
Not banning mass events and closing nightclubs as soon as we realised there was transmission in the uk.
Not producing ppe in the uk but having to rely on other countries.

And Boris causing the Boris variant which is causing issues
