Next Manager?

So was Mourinho, why change him for Nuno, what are we doing? Transfers were good last summer, Hojbjerg and Reguilon are good transfers and first 11 players. Rodon is promising and Bale's return was good when looking that he scored more than Lamela in his entire Spurs career. Ok maybe LoCelso is just average and Doherty less than so, but our high amount of dead wood, most are not from last summer transfers.
If nuno can bring conor coady with him it would be an incredible coup.. Coady is very much in the Steve Perryman mould (my favourite ever player) and could be a great captain for the future. If he can get the best out of Doherty it would be like having a whole new player, with Toby, tanganga, rodon, reguillon.. Buy tomiyasu and lamptey, we would be defensively a new team. Get Dele firing.. Sell dier, winks, aurier, sanchez, lamela, moura, sissoko. Buy 3 out of Brooks , Ivan toney, damsgaad, Alexander isak
If I see Neto in a Spurs shirt...that could be one benefit.
Neto would be nice but Connor coady is who I'm hoping for.. He really reminds me of Perryman ( my favourite spurs player ever).. Could be a future captain and a great foil for rodon and Toby.. Getting Doherty to play like he did at wolves will be another bonus.

Havent paid much attention to Connor Coady but if he is anywhere near Perryman levels, I'm totally in.

If Nuno really is more adaptable and his Valencia side played a style of football that won’t put off our fans, then I need TP for my bunghole.

I kind of agree with @Mr Gogolak . I don’t think managers are irrelevant but that’s not what they’re saying. I think so much stock is put in to the appointment but so many other things around the manager are better indicators of the likelihood of success. The team spirit, the alignment across the club for signings, the mentality of the best players. I think the manager needs to gain respect, and they need to have an idea of how to play. I think they also need to be good for our specific situation - PL experience + European knock out experience + willingness to work with younger players and not only need proven ‘men’. If Nuno is those things, I think he’ll be fine.

If we were in a different financial situation and could spend more, I’d say get Conte. But given our constraints, to all intents and purposes Nuno at Wolves has a very Poch at Soton kind of reputation. The players respected him dearly and he achieved a lot there.

Perryman is one of my favourites as well.

Do you listen to his podcast? I'd recommend it.

We're not signing anyone who isn't on this list: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gestifute/beraterfirma/berater/413

No I've not heard it.. A long time ago I was travelling thru Norway and I came across the Steve Perryman shop in bergen. The wife wondered what had happened, I just lost it .. Hadn't realised he had set up a chain of shops over there. Just had to get a Steve Perryman sports bag. Ye cheers for that I'll look out for it.

Not only did mourinho set the club back 10 years. He cost us a year of kane, son, bale,. I personally think even in Italy he may find his methods and tactics are outdated.

For Levy’s sake I hope this is right. Otherwise Levy/the club will increasingly look like a problem.

We would name a 29 year old former player, he was a stop gap for a few games to get rid of Mourinho while searching for a proper replacement. Nothing unusual in that.
There have been loads of managers at 29 that have quickly become successful, look at Nagelsmann.

Managers are more knowledgeable now than ever in all areas and with ideas being shared more than ever. The overall standard of managers and players has improved as it has done in more or less all areas of life with improvements in education and easy access to training and knowledge. 30-40 years ago managers didn't have any idea about nutrition, recovery etc and didn't have easy access to analysis of teams from all over the world to see different tactics and incorporate them into their own ideas. A few stood out 30-40 years ago as they were ahead in certain areas e.g. Wenger was miles ahead in fitness and nutrition, now it's harder to stand out because the overall standard is higher across the board. But we still have the likes of Pep having huge impacts on playing styles.

I think our views on this matter are so far apart that we'll have to agree to disagree. In my opinion, all managers share a common background on most topics, thanks to the same education programs being delivered on all continents. Even the worst managers have a fairly basic knowledge of most subjects but it's become a specialist's game now and most of them would be helpless if they didn't have their team with them (apart from a few 'old school' managers, like Bielsa).

I don't think Wenger's success was due to his interest in fitness and nutrition but rather to his in-depth knowledge of French academies and their staff. Having said that, I think he was the first (or one of the firsts) to bring a whole team of specialists with him and, in so doing, I believe he diluted the impact of managers as individuals. It would probably be closer to the truth to speak about 'team Pep' or 'team Klopp'. Put them alone in charge in a Sunday league team though, and I still think they couldn't hold a candle to any of the guys I mentioned earlier. But it's just my opinion.

Why would Nuno bring Connor Coady with him? Connor Coady is contracted to Wolves and getting him would require Spurs to pay a transfer fee of a commensurate amount to what Wolves value him at. I think that amount will be more than we will be spending on a single player this summer.
