Christian Eriksen

Maybe, but he was renowned as being one of the best No10s in world football, and his first few years at Arsenal proved that. Whether he was a panic buy is irrelevant

Actually, if they'd bought Luis Suarez instead of Ozil that would have been marquee. They didn't really need Ozil but they did need a striker of the calibre of Suarez. They panicked and bought a player they didn't need so in the end it wasn't really marquee given what they could/should have bought/needed..

I'm talking about Mahrez being signed after winning the league with Leicester. Again, how he is seen by Pep is irrelevant. He was one of the best wingers in the league and available for a chunky price sure, but is still one of the best wingers in the league and will improve any team in the division.

Mahrez is good but has always been slightly flaky at that level. City with their array of attacking players are able to cover this. Were there many others trying to get Mahrez, either in the PL oor abroad? I doubt it.
Now, imagine if City had bought, say, Eden Hazard. Now that would have been marquee! Similarly if they break their record and sign Kane this summer...scary...

Pulisic was one of the best prospects to come out of the German league in years, the second biggest sale in Dortmund history.

Ditto Modric was one of the hottest young prospects in Europe when we bought him. As good as Pulisic is, i don't think he's at the quality level in his position that Modric was in his at the time.

As above, one of the biggest established names still residing in the Portuguese league. And we were clearly in for him, but with a paltry offer to show for it.

Established in Portugal. I'll raise you 'established in France' or 'established in Spain' (NDombele and Lo Celso). As i say, if either of our two had played long enough under a more aggressive/attacking manager than Jose we'd might be lauding them in the same way Penandes is currently.

I get your point and not trying to be argumentative, but we've shown time and time again, especially with Daniel Levy, that when a specific requirement needs to be filled in the squad, he goes for the cheaper option. And in some cases, we're talking a matter of millions.

This is also true for sales of players. Instead of getting Danny Rose off the books entirely, he argued with Watford over a few million and now we're still funding him to sit with the U23s.

Until he's taken off the process and we bring a DoF, the same will continue.

I agree with parts of this and i'd also like a DoF to have more control of squad building, purchasing etc.
We have done a few 'big signings' in the transfer market ourselves at times, but the bar is higher since he stadium built and the time is now to see if Levy/ENIC can 'step up' as it were...time will tell (i don't believe they will but time will tell)

Really happy for the guy. Despite the last 8 months or so, the guy was class for us and he really did Poch's teams tick

Totally agree, he has left a massive hole in our midfield. One of the reasons Conte sounded a good idea was he may have brought him back.

He was jogging quite slowly, away from the action, and just kind of stumbled and fell forward onto the grass. He was lying there still, with his eyes open for a few seconds before the cameras cut away. Just awful.
