Grayson gone! Leeds sack manager after home hammering by Birmingham

Simon Grayson has been sacked as manager of Championship outfit Leeds.

The decision to get rid of Grayson comes the day after Leeds were crushed 4-1 by promotion rivals Birmingham at Elland Road.

Neil Warnock is the early leading candidate to replace Grayson.

Warnock was axed by QPR at the start of January.

Grayson, 42, who replaced Gary McAllister as manager of his boyhood club in December 2008, has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks as Leeds have fallen out of the top six.

Tuesday's defeat appears to have been the final straw for chairman Ken Bates, who is now in the hunt for his fifth Leeds manager during his seven years at the club.

Chief executive Shaun Harvey said: 'We have 18 games to go this season and are still within touching distance of the play-offs, but felt with the transfer window now closed we needed to make the change at this time in the belief that a new managerial team will be able to get more out of the existing squad of players and make the difference.

'Simon and his staff have given the club over three good years service and we would like to place on record our thanks and wish them all the best for the future.

'Current youth-team manager Neil Redfearn has been asked to take temporary charge of the first team until a new manager is available.'

Former Blackpool boss Grayson, who began his playing career at the club, steered Leeds to promotion from League One in 2010 and missed out on the Championship play-offs by three points last season.

A lot of Leeds fans will be happy about this.

But seriously, how do you manage to concede FOUR goals from Zigic in one match?

The longer they stay out of the Prem the better. Although they are a good club, and are a team that you can almost say deserves to be in the top Division, I just cannot stand their fans. they were so ****y when they got the CL semi finals, coming to white hart lane and singing "brick ground, brick fans" i mean have you seen Elland Road, three sides of it are from the 60s the stinking tinkle hole. And I hated O'leary when we has manager, he was so blinkered it was nuts! with his "we Dominated" statements.

Stay down there and Rot please!

Don't miss having them in the top flight and from the sound of things during the FA cup games against them home and away in 2010 it sounds like their fans are still as charming as ever.

So Sandman's sentiments echoed!

just a mention for Birmingham and what a job Hughton is doing there. Storming up the table

My sentiments exactly.

We need to consider what to do with Townsend and Smith, if they bring in some clogger (i.e. Warnock) we need to recall them and get them out to a proper footballing outfit. Don't want them rotting in a championship sides reserves because the manager doesn't think "they're up for it"

In a team that was walking it, with a player who was far too good for the championship leading them all the way, it is very easy to trust youngsters (oh and btw Walker had a lot of Championship experience). Will he trust a couple of youngsters who have played mostly in League 1, and are playing for a team who are constantly under incredible pressure to win no matter what sort of team they play? I don't think he would.

We can afford to wait a short while to see who Leeds bring in, but most new managers would be wary of using them at Leeds.

He did alright with Walker in the first half of last season

Warnock did pretty well with Taarabt to. Btw, can we recall him? Doesn't look like he's playing much and we could use some cover on the wings.
