I am not Muslim, but I really admire many aspects of their faith. Whether or not you believe in GHod to fast between the sunrise and sunset requires incredible discipline and I have so much respect for anyone who does it. These days I struggle to walk past a cake shop without going in. Incidentally, the discipline of fasting is not only from food and drink but any thing sinful including swearing.
Sticking to a finely honed nutritional regime that clubs have developed over years also requires a lot of discipline. It has the added benefits of ensuring peak condition and acting like a professional.

I gladly would. Anyone willing to get punchy over their imaginary friend really needs to look at their priorities.

That's not a race issue either - I consider lent just as ridiculous.

No you wouldn’t. You and I both know that. No-on said anything about getting punchy either, if that’s where your head goes fair enough.

You may consider lent ridiculous, but you only ever save your comments on here for subjects related to minorities and those you think you can hold agency over. It’s pathetic and clearly rooted in your own insecurity.

I've been very critical of all religions here - they're all ridiculous.

The reason this discussion is happening right now is a ridiculous practice that's thousands of years out of date.

Out of interest, why do you insist on relating observation of Ramadan with race? Isn't restricting that to minority groups a bit racist?

Don’t try and wriggle out of this EDL Dave. You know exactly who you’ve saved your special kind of cowardice for on this forum.

Have a search of my posts for the terms "pope" or similar. You'll see that I consider all religions as ridiculous as each other.

Those that generate the most comments will be those that have the practices least compatible with modern life - such as starving oneself because a paedophile told some people that his imaginary friend wants them to.

You bring out the ‘I hate all religions’ after you’ve been called our for being a prejudiced or racist weasel. Or the same type of stock answer for any marginalised or minority group. It’s a theme with you.

Considering you mention ‘polite society’ a lot, you’re doing a miserable job of being part of it yourself. If you want to carry on doubling down that’s up to you, it’s really sad.

Self discipline is a very good thing to have but totally out of step with modern society, to be forced to fast or wear certain clothing is simply a tool of control and bears no relation to religion. I was beat (bought) up as a catholic when eating meat on a Friday was not allowed and fasting before taking communion, did it make me a better person or more pious, of course not, but the loving, forgiveful Christ I believed in would commit my soul to purgatory for breaking that rule. All these fundamentalist seem to prefer the old testament GHod with his vengeful attitude.

Big difference for me between criticism against a religious authority figure and criticism against an individual believer who holds no religious authority.

I believe Scara reserves particular vitriol for Muslims. I'm not sure why he hates people of my faith so much and I know he will never admit it. But for an intelligent person, his level of bigotry towards Muslims is a good reminder for me that it is not the lager lout EDL types alone who hate. Its the well off middle class lot too. Such is the world.

In fairness to Scara I don't think he is racist.

Yet another amazing coincidence the players he choose to belittle happen to be both black, and, Muslim…

I wish he’d just admit it. The whole point of hiding in plain sight, is that you’re meant to be hiding.

Islam, doesn't actually force anyone to do anything. There are adherents who mix up religious and cultural traditions by accident or on purpose depending on their agenda. The same is done in the name of Catholicism. But it doesn't mean there is anything inherently wrong with the religion itself.

I have seen this discussion before. Scara is very clumsy with his language but his criticisms are against the religion rather than race based. Now you might legitimately believe that it is hard to separate the two and Scara certainly sails close to the wind, but imho there is a distinction.

Imagine how good they could be if they weren't partaking in such fudgewittery.

"fudgewittery", really !!!

I am not religious at all. But, I have nothing against anyone who practices his / her religion. It is their right. Period.
During my working life, I have worked in various countries with multi-racial, multi-religious populations. This mix was represented in the staff that worked for me.
During Ramadan, it is not only about not eating and drinking. A whole lot of other aspects come into play.
I remember that the productivity of my Muslim staff increased a lot during Ramadan. They didn't need coffee, lunch, cigarette breaks.
Now, when it comes to Aurier, he probably had his best ever game for us - while fasting.
No brain farts, silly fouls etc.
If this is what fasting does for him, I have a serious suggestion.

Make him fast for every game !!! :):)

We would have the best right back in the league.

I disagree. He is anything but clumsy with his language. He is extremely precise with it, in order to stay marginally onside of exposing his baked in prejudices.

To quote someone who has put it more eloquently than I ever could;

"If you think that motherfudger is sacred
.......
fudge you, you're no better than the motherfudging rapist"
