Harry Winks

Was just about to post that. Athletico would be a great move for him

I've nothing against the guy, though I know loads on here cant stand him. Shame hat he hasnt progressed much over the last couple years given he's a Spurs boy and was on an upward trajectory before, but at 25 years old, being say 5th choice CM for us wouldnt be that interesting for him (PEH, Ndombele, GLC and Skipp all being ahead of him).

If we got the £15m-£20m mentioned in that article, and he went to a team like Athletico, it might suit all parties
This. Whether it's the system, the manager, the players around him, or just something in the lemons, young Harry's just not kicked in to the level I once hoped he might attain.

If he can get a move to a top club in a league that's better suited to him (and I'm sure his performances against Real and Barca will stand him in good stead), he has my best wishes. Good lad. Tottenham lad.

So, why did this guy play 90 mins? Was it something to do with the Soton game?
Politics??
Very odd given that Ndombele didn't get a single minute

well I thought he played well
Kept the ball when we briefly had it
Won his tackles
And pressed them when needed
Game wasn’t lost because of him
It was another CM who came in and didn’t jump or move TBH and another who couldn’t clear it in the post

I have no major issue with Winks playing to be honest. He did okay. Ndombele's performance against Southampton was a disgrace. He's gone back to last year's Tanguy which is massively disappointing because he has all the talent in the world.

Evaluation of Wink's game has now become -> he didn't obviously fudge up = good game.

He absolutely didn't have a good game yesterday (neither did anyone else bar probably 3 players), but in no way did he deserve his start or staying on 90 mins.

Mason knows he is more reliable than Ndom!

Haha, you've forgotten how our midfield has been since Dembele and Wanyama were crocked...if Winks really was more reliable he'd have been playing more up to this point.

I worry we might sell Ndombele in the summer:(

We need as many quality players as possible, especially in CM and in the creative areas of the pitch...

Sadly Ndombele doesn't impress me especially. Good ball skills but he holds on to the ball for too long IMO.

Quite. Ndombele did nothing against Southampton to justify a starting spot in the cup final.

Pity, as there's one hell of a player in there somewhere. Unfortunately, with Hojbjerg in woeful form, we can't carry any passengers in midfield.

Ndombele may not have deserved to start but Winks was a non entity. He's just not good enough.
Looking at the way we lined up...

Wide attacking players trying to be in good counter attacking positions so weren't asked to drop very deep to help out the full backs. Instead a lot of the responsibility to get wide and help out the full back was on Lo Celso and Hojbjerg. Can't see anyone other than those two and Sissoko capable of playing that role in this game.

That meant finding a player that could play centrally of the three, with a lot of responsibility defensively in terms of discipline, positioning and awareness.

If you think that's a role for Ndombele, fine. I don't.

Winks may not be good enough that's up to the next manager and probably depends on incoming players more than anything. There are others higher up the list of "not good enough" players for me.

For this game, for that role, he was the best choice and did alright.

The argument of Winks vs. Ndombele aside, he absolutely didn't have an ok game

- The midfield in general didn't have a good game (tough against City always), but the passmap shows Winks failure, he pretty much never got the ball to any of the attacking players, and barely made himself available to releave the pressure on CBs

If that's how you read the map, that indicates that you think that was Wink's role. As I read it, his job was to pass to Lo Celso, who the should feed the attack.

Harry didn't have a great game, but then again, nobody really did.

Agree that the team didn't have a good game, just disputing that some actually felt Winks had anything other than "didn't fudge up" game

Re what the pass map said

- To be positive, his role would have been to avoid the midfield being completely overrun and getting the ball to the creative midfielder (so, yes to Lo Celso)
- On the negative, he didn't make himself available enough for the CB's and didn't leverage any option wide/forward (any attempt to deal with City's press)

He did exactly what you would have expected pre-game which is a criticism I put on Mason, Winks was never going to help us win against City.
