Lucas Moura

Lucas was our best performer after Kane since turn of the year. That might sound crazy and it's a helluva lot of slim pickings, but it's true (oh, it's true).

In the No 10 role he offers something, sure he's limited but in terms of pressing, no one can offer what he can. He deserves a start in No10 behind Kane on Sunday, moreso than Dele.

Fight me.

Strange post, Dele has barely figured this season and won't be match fit in the slightest - don't think anyone would be calling for him to start a cup final out of the blue

He still can't play upfront on his own. Yesterday proved it again.
No idea why people still think him starting upfront instead of Kane in the CL final would have changed anything.

Don’t think anyone thinks Moura should have started over Kane. He should have started over Alli who had been below par for over a year whilst Moura was in a purple patch. No sentiment, Moura was just in better form than Alli.

When did Dele last start?
When did he last play 45+min?
Dele can’t be match fit.
So how can anybody assess him?

I felt Kane shouldn't have played from the start. The boys that earned that victory versus Ajax should have started in my opinion.

Do you think that you should pick players based on who won the game previous or the ones who you think would give you the best chance of winning the game at hand?

No room for sentimentality at the top

I think both come into play. Funny to me I thought it was sentiment that Kane started. He was rushed back. I may have brought him on in the second half.

Kane shouldn't have started because he clearly wasn't fit. Who started in his place whether that be Moura, Llorente or a combination of the two was for Poch to decide but Kane should have been used as an impact sub if needed.

Sentimentality and emotion is why Poch selected Kane. He should have been more objective in that moment.

There are fair arguments to be made for why Kane shouldn't have played or why X or Y should have done instead, but playing well in the previous round is not one of them - you pick the best from what's available and i think the vast majority of managers would pick a returning Kane more often than not.

Sensible managers would pick the player who is fit enough to do the job. Kane wasn't as evidenced by the performance. That's where sentimentality and emotion came into the decision. It was not a choice borne of rationality.

I think most managers who've won CLs and similar big matches would not have picked Kane in those circumstances as there have been many key players over the years who have missed out on finals due to injuries. Those players could also have been rushed back but instead their managers decided to trust their alternatives knowing a half fit player isn't going to do the job.

Our issue we more we had no decent alternative, if we had one I'm fairly certain Poch would have done the sensible thing and selected them instead. Why we had no decent alternative is another debate entirely but that's the truth of the matter.

The alternatives got us to the final.

I'm a Poch fan never wanted him sacked at all, but he made mistakes as well, and it's OK to acknowledge those.

Not sure if it wasn't clear but I think he should have picked the alternatives.

Back to Moura. I think he is still underrated by fans. I hope and expect him to start tomorrow, partly because I hope he will have the desire to make up for the CL final, but mainly because I think we will need his guile in the middle of the park.
