European Super League - Dead on arrival

But doesnt that mean that you end up where I suggested? This replaces the CL and plays midweek, domestic leagues stay at weekends?

It will expand to being bigger than the CL.

If you automatically have 6 clubs from England and Spurs is the size of the club being invited, it’s going to be about 40 clubs.

Anyone paying billions for that is going to want more games

If it ends up being a league type system how many games are you going to end up playing? Can you get relegated?

The PL will be stuffed with reserve team players.

Part of the original proposal, and I believe a long term objective, is to have weekend evening games because it is peak time for TV and would command the most in rights.

Either this is a negotiating position in order to get their own way re having the CL reorganised to their liking. (As opposed to EUFA's proposed revamp). Or, driven by the US owners' love of stability and guaranteed revenue streams, with no promotion/relegation ever, they are serious and it will destroy the current structure of the game as we know it.

The players ought to have a long hard think though, salary caps will be next.

It replaces CL for the teams in this new competition, but what about every other team?

I think there will be a negotiation around entry rights. Not sure where it will end up but my guess is the final position will be somewhere between this, and where we are now

hahaha toys really coming out of the pram then!
I think Neville is spot on with his comments. It’s a Money grab and driven by pure greed.

I’m disappointed in Mr Levy if he has signed us up and not surprised by it either.

What right do we have to be in a European super league ? Delusion of grandeur springs to mind . We can’t even compete in our own league.

Problem is he works for Sky, who did the same to Help form the PL on the promise of more money.

This I think is just opening moves in a longer battle!
Not even opening moves, you know this idea has been bouncing around in various forms for a long time.

I hate the idea but it's starting to feel almost inevitable I which case the question becomes whether it is better to get in at the ground floor or hope it dies a death. Don't know the answer to that but my preference would be to fight it.

fudge this greed.

Look at it this way - this announcement would have happened with us or without us.

And given the sums involved, there is no way you'd want to be on the outside

That’s the problem the sums involved , pure money business. I love watching football of all forms. But this feels soulless

It's about trying to recover money lost to Covid.

I think if this ESL in some amended format replaces the CL, and we stay in the PL, I'm not sure it'll feel that different

They don't want the smaller teams in it and they want guaranteed participation for the founder members. That's a huge difference.

my post said 'in some amended format' - that would be one of the key aspects which UEFA etc would push on. Maybe it expands to 30 teams of which 19 qualify? I dont know but clearly that would be the most sensitive aspect which people would want changed
