I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Yeah sure. Consistently influential whenever he plays, and that for 7-8 years.
If every player played with the application and fight as Lamela, we'd have won the league several times, and several cups. Meh my ass.
I don't see it.... Sure he charges around the pitch like a 7 year old, running around after the ball and commits lots of stupid fouls but that doesn't really help our game at all IMO. And that's before you consider that he wastes an overseas space and also consider how often he is injured.

He isn't really a wide forward, isn't a number 10 and isn't a number 8 either. Replacing him in the squad with a specialist in a position that we want to fill would be a sensible move.

A transfer fee for him as well as his wages off the books would be a double bonus for us.

Take a look at some highlights from the big games in the last 6-7 years. You'll be amazed by how many goals he had a big part in.

That's what I just said above; meh

Agree, after all these years I'm still not sure what his ideal position/role would be to get the best out of his skillset. Has to be said that he always puts in a shift wherever he's placed, and definately has his moments. I like him and think he's much more valuable now than a few seasons ago, but that says more about the team really. Lamela is the kind of player that if we regard him as great and important to the (first) team, we're set for 6-10th place.

I would be sad to see him go. We’re not blessed with players that give 110% every time they pull on the shirt. Particularly ones that are capable of moments of brilliance.

As Tottenham fans we have become far to accepting of mediocrity. Look at the love the likes of Sissoko, Lamela and Winks get.

Sorry to see him go, I think he's been unfortunate here. Not just with injuries but in having to play in systems and positions that maybe don't give him the chance to shine.
But he never complained, got on with it gave his all.
Seems a strange time to leave mind you, unless he knows s we don't.

Mediocrity would be a step up for some of the players you haven’t mentioned, and I'll bet pulling in much higher salaries.
Mediocrity with effort will often beat superior who don't try, just ask Brighton, Zagreb, West ham, etc.

Who said he's going? Haven't seen it reported anywhere

Not definite of course, but it does seem plausible.
Thanks, missed that.

If he was fit and available for the majority of the season he would be a very good squad player. Unfortunately he is injured too often so if we can get a decent deal we should cash in before he walks away for nothing next season.

I don't k ow which players in particular you're referring too but I'd likely agree that they were mediocre too. [emoji2379]

He is something of a cult hero and I don’t know if the injuries helped with that, as his sporadic appearances became like cameos of brickhousery and rollovers rather than one with expectation that he’s influence the game in an attacking way.

I’ve warmed to him over the last couple of seasons, especially in matches against better teams where he helps set a pressing tempo and if he was injury free you could probably make a case for him as a kind of attacking enforcer (Moura and Bergwijn have not been particularly effective in the goals dept. either) but ultimately he’s only scored 2 more league goals for us in 7 years than he did for Roma in his last season.
I just wish that Gooner rabona had won the game, as no doubt it will get replayed on the big screens before every home game!

Help me out people, which one should I buy?

I like the one with the pink.

I'll be very sad indeed when he leaves. I hope this doesn't happen. It would be a move worthy of the Napoli 10 shirt though.
They'll have to bring it out of retirement for that.

Surely Lamela leaving would create a perfect Dybala-shaped hole in our squad, right? To be filled right away? Please??
