Mauricio Pochettino

He’s a top bloke and a very good coach, and was a nice fit for our club. But the way some spoke about him as being one of the top coaches in the world with his record of winning zero was over the top. He obviously needs more time to be judged at PSG but the argument about chequebook managers and whether they could do it at clubs with limited funds also applies the other way round. Poch getting a group of young and unproven players to over achieve at a club with not overly high expectations is a different kettle of fish to going to a club with expecting to win the top trophies and having established stars to manage. Let’s hope it works out for him.....

Perfectly put. Excellent manager, but not world class for me. One of the best managers in the game currently but found it strange when some claimed he was the best pound for pound manager in the game when he hadn’t won anything. I really do hope he wins the CL with PSG. Lovely bloke, does have the ruthlessness required to be an elite manager?

I'm good with him returning to Spurs. Succeeding Mourinho would be fine. By now, the players must know what they've had and lost. I think they'd be delighted to see Mourinho leave and the fatigue factor that permeated the club after the Champions League final loss has finally dissipated.

I could see Kane and Son loving it. Once again. Lo Celso would be good with it. Hojbjerg would probably love Poch's pressing tactics. Aurier's a better player now than when Poch left. There's the fate of young Ryan Sessegnon to consider at LB but he'd have to be more stoked that if Mourinho is still managing.

That loss to Lille today is a bad one. Lille should actually be six points clear but contrived to lose to relegation strugglers Nimes not long ago. Poch only has a contract for this season and next, so him getting sacked is certainly affordable. Give him a year to get back to London, get his head showered and positive ideas flowing and he'll be all set to replace Jose when the time comes.

I've got it all worked out. My name is Daniel, too.

Blimey people really want to be proven right that Poch is actually a failure. Why not judge him at the end of next season? You know when he has had a proper opportunity to work with the players? This season hasn’t even finished and the obituaries are already being written. Incredible stuff but not really surprising.

Normally giving a manager time is relevant. When he's in the competitive equivalent of having a kick about with your 5yo, there's no excuse for it.

You’re right but we can also only judge on what we have seen so far, which is a series of home defeats against their main rivals for the title. I’ve said before I think ultimately he will be judged on the CL as that is the trophy they really want. But not winning the league with their resources isn’t a good look, unfair as that may be as he joined them mid season. I think most people rate him as one of the top managers in the game but there is an element of can he win the big trophies. I hope he does.

Surely you know by now that for some on here it is only Jose Mourinho who is allowed to have multiple seasons at the same club before he is allowed to be judged?

Good article on him from Guillem Balague. For what it’s worth I do believe he will win trophies at PSG given time to work with this team to impose his philosophy. Sadly for many fans, even if he does, they will not be the right kind of trophies.

The CL is the only trophy that represents any kind of challenge to him. You or I could win all the domestic trophies with PSG.

If Poch wins everything domestically and gets to the CL quarter finals he'll be about par.

You never go back, it rarely ever works for players or coaches. Both Poch and Spurs have now moved on and he might not be able to recreate that lighting in the bottle he had the first time around.

Instead we need to look for another Poch and hopefully this time be able to give him better backing.

I think any trophy would be welcomed. But at some point in his career he needs to win a CL, PL, La Liga to be considered as great as Simeone, Klopp, Pep. I’d hate for Poch to end up another Bielsa, a revered coach who doesn’t deliver trophies despite playing nice football. Dare I say I think Poch needs to become a bit more ruthless, not necessarily Jose style but he’s the manager and needs to be comfortable with making decisions that will upset people at times. For me, he’s comfortably one of the top coaches in the game but he’s a notch below simeone, Klopp and pep in my opinion, at least until he wins some big trophies.

wish Poch every success, people want to toss themselves into a stupor of him being a failure, i'd really consider why it even matters?

Anyway, don't think Poch's methods would work at a PSG/Madrd/Barca esque team personally. far too many stars, too many demanding egos. You think Neymar wants to do a double training session? no chance.

His perfect fit would have been Man Utd after us, a mix of experience and youth. Glad he never went though, my heart wouldn't have been able to take it.

Which begs the question why PSG aren't paying you 15 million a year. Or why you aren[t managing a club in that league? You do spout some high quality guff sometimes you big bluffer!
