Dele Alli

Bringing this up as for some reason there are a ton of threads on what the clearout needs to look like post Jose and people want to keep Dele?

How the fudge do you watch that game last night, his game against the Scum and think you keep this guy?

I would keep, now is not the time to cull. Let the new guy do the culling. Dele is quality but Jose has buggered about with many. We need to give players a new settled start.

I’m ambivalent about Alli. He’s clearly not the player he was 3/4 years even though some refuse to accept it still. But there’s at least 5 or 6 players I’d get rid of before him; Dier, Sanchez, Lamela, Bergwijn, Winks, Doherty.

Do not really disagree with you, but Alli will/still bring a decent fee in and we need the money to rebuild. I would keep Bergwin, only 23 and has shown enough for me to suggest there is a very good player in there.

I know 23 is young but I think time is ticking for him. He's had more than a year now and other than having good all round attributes and working hard he has rarely shown breakout potential. Totally different in style but reminds me of Lewis Holtby, decent and full of effort but not much better than we had before. I really hope he starts a few games in row, gets a goal and some confidence, otherwise he is being wasted by getting so little time to showcase himself

Son looked awful first season

You make some good points but he has never really been given a run in the side, regular player for Holland and has had a few injurys in that year and I believe there are a few who should be sold before him. I agree he needs more game time which may give him that confidence to push on as you say.

Dele is a sellable asset that isn't producing, so for me the idea of taking another gamble on him makes no sense as you said

Bergwijn stays, there is something there

Lamela stays unless you are a 100% sure you got another player coming in with the same level of commitment (last week should show everyone talent isn't the only measurement), same with Lucas for me

Dier, Winks, Sissoko no one is going to argue for
Doherty apparently Wolves are willing to re-sign, take the hit, let him go

Sanchez and Toby let the new manager decide

True, let's see if he gets a run with Son out. Maybe it will be the perfect time for him

Has any team ever completely dismantled and bought in a load of replacements over a summer? I'm trying to think and I can only really remember when Blackpool came up. They had some limit of 10k a week for wages and one player choose to go to a League one side instead because he was offered better wages! haha cannot remember who that was. Either way, they bought in a whole load of players that summer, then I think Holloway said he regretted it later on. Completely different case to us now but I was just trying to think of a side that had a good overhaul. Chelsea have had some mental windows haven't they?

Yep, the trick is how many first team players are we talking about

- Dele, Winks, Sissoko, Dier, Davies (less so) would be five out that don't play in the PL first 11
- You could arguable add Doherty to the above
- Foyth, Rose, CCV don't even have squad numbers

That's 9 out, don't renew Bale and that's 10 off the wage bill.

7 to 9 in is about the most I've seen us do, usually including a couple of youngsters.

Surprised the article does not properly explore the deeper reasons Dele has become so much sloppier on the ball in recent seasons and more especially under Jose.

Maybe some of it is down to external distractions but my gut feeling is it's also because Dele has now lost all faith in Mourinho and no longer cares to operate within the restrictive straightjacket Jose seems to want to impose on him.

His attitude seems to be, fudge this for a game of soldiers, I'll play the way I want and if that doesn't work out so what, I'll just ride things out until I get a move or JM gets dumped.

Was waiting for this to be blamed on Mourinho:D So if this the case why is it that NDombeles skills hasn’t been stifled by the monster that is Mourinho? I’m surprised Mourinho even picks NDombele, he literally despises anyone who displays skill on the pitch:rolleyes: Fact is Dele hasn’t been the same player for some time, well before Mourinho came along. His dip in form pretty much coincides with when he opened his own fashion label, he clearly has had other distractions off the pitch as well. Let’s hope he gets his head back into football properly some point soon whether that’s here or somewhere else as it would be criminal to see his talents go to waste....

Scary how big the fall is but some useful info in there, didn't realise how many chances he'd created after a carry (second only to De Bruyne a few years back) for instance.

It's really hard to know if he's one of those players who peaked early and then went on a downward trend or whether playing out of position, manager not having faith etc over time has knocked him but he can still come back.

I'd sell many other players before him but he himself would want a move I'd imagine in the summer if Jose stays.

First 3 seasons good
4th season, mixed results but played out of position and the team as a whole dropped off performance wise
5th season was Joses first and he was our 3rd highest G & A provider despite missing a third of the games
6th season he has been frozen out/not played

His decline has been greatly over stated
