Hugo Lloris

Sounds like Lloris believes that our squad now has many bad eggs as we had 5 years ago... hopefully Levy’s transfer committee is brave enough to shift this latest bad batch before they have the chance to blight yet another season.

Harry Kane believes Tottenham's improvement this season is because the club is rid of its "bad eggs."

Mauricio Pochettino remodelled his squad into a leaner, fitter and younger group as Vlad Chiriches, Kyle Naughton, Etienne Capoue, Aaron Lennon, Paulinho, Younes Kaboul, Benjamin Stambouli, Lewis Holtby, Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Roberto Soldado all left Tottenham last season.

"Even the players who don't play are still working hard in training and doing all the right things to try to get into the team, which is important," the striker said in the London Evening Standard.

"If you have one or two bad eggs, it can bring others down others, and we don't have that. Everyone is fighting for each other and we are in a lot of competitions, so people know they will play games to try to impress the manager. We've got to try to keep that belief high.”

Just after 1 min in "performance reflects what's going on in the club....we have lack of basics, lack of fundamentals"

Anyone questioning why Hugo is captain needs to watch this. That is an outstanding interview. He isn't grandstanding or playing to the crowd there. That's a man who is angry, hurt and disappointed in himself, his club, his manager and his team mates. Giving that interview in his second language makes it even more incredible.

The answers were articulate, honest and considered. You can see him pausing before each answer. Hats off to him. Sadly, we clearly have big problems behind the scenes.

Oomph. Seriously good interview from Hugo there, and seriously worrying too. Difficult to guess what he means exactly when he talks about 'the fundamentals' and the lack of effort (in training) by some of the players. Who would not be applying himself fully in training. Bale? We have heard José criticize him, both in training pictures and in interviews. Dele? The other players have not been particularly loud about his plight this season. Ndombélé? But why would José bring him on then? if Hugo and Mourinho are right, and this is not about quality but about effort, then we as fans should be able to see this too.

I think it's a car crash of an interview, along with the incident with Son, his drink driving, and being crap this is why Hugo shouldn't be captain. Yes, he's obviously hurt but this should all be done behind closed doors. This isn't going to achieve anything except cause further issues in the dressing room.

If players aren't training properly or are causing problems why hasn't he as captain or other senior players done something about it? A proper leader would have sorted it out behind closed doors before it got to this stage and we are sorely lacking them. There's no way someone like Roy Keane would accept players not training properly and we don't have that type of character in the squad.

It also reflects poorly on Mourinho. If he has an unsettled squad that's splintered and he has been unable to address it for whatever reason he is probably not going to be able to turn this around and is a dead man walking.

Lloris is normally pretty measured in his interviews even when we have been poor, this is pretty brutal. To air the dirty laundry so publicly means he’s had enough of what ever is going on behind the scenes.

Trippier said something about behind the scenes in his interview when he left.I know that it may not be the same .But we clearly have deep rooted issues at the club.

It is good to hear I think. Might not be good for the moral etc, but I like his honesty.

I think Winks is one who’ll be seriously tinkled off with the situation, now he’s been dropped by England and Southgate calling out directly he’s not playing in ‘League’ games now. Not sure if he’s one to down tools, but I’m sure he’ll be seething.

I think ‘entitled’ is definitely the right word to describe some of these players. The problem is most of them have been together too long, having not ‘achieved’ anything while they’ve been here, be it medals or superstar wages, and they’re all fed up with the sight of each other now.

I take your point but last night was beyond keeping it behind closed doors. It was, as Hugo said, a disgrace. He also hasn't personalised it so I'm fine with him having a go and he's taken responsibility himself.

You mention Keane. He had no problem ranting in public and naming and shaming.

I agree it doesn't reflect well on Mourinho but, frankly, Lloris has alluded to what I already suspect.

It's as good an interview as he can give at this time.

I don't care about the interview, I care about the games. I care about what goes on to make us better in games, but that's obviously difficult to evaluate from the outside.

A lot of things are obviously wrong with what goes on between the games, I appreciate the honesty about that. I want a captain to help identify that before it goes wrong like it did last night, and work to fix it. He might be doing just that, but for whatever reasons that doesn't work. He might also not be doing enough. But that's impossible to know.

All the same at Utd, where he spent £400m and failed with the same issues. There's only one common denominator

Dele, Winks, Dier, Toby (who I think is unhappy at being managed) are the obvious hangovers from past

Aurier probably thinks he should play every game and has had obvious conflicts with Jose

Davies, Rodon and Bale probably don't enjoy mostly being 2nd string.

All this stuff happens all the time, when you win = mostly happy, when you lose = it surfaces more.

Nobody is going to argue that it was a disgrace and I don't mind him having a go at the team collectively if it's more along the lines of "we weren't good enough" or "we need to work harder, pull together" etc. Not talking about some not working hard enough.

The point about Keane is the standards he sets, he's far from perfect but the best example I can think of for the standards he sets for the whole team as a captain. I don't see that with Lloris or any of our players.

I think we all suspect that there are issues and not everyone is behind Mourinho.

Yup, I want him to go and have done so for a while. He is very divisive, both within supporters and it seems to be with players too.
Unfortunately, I don't see him going immediately but the sooner he does the better so the whole club can move on and before he causes deeper splits within the club.

Isn't that what most people on here (not saying you because I don't take note) complain about? The same cliche's recycled after each humiliation. Hugo's actually given us something that feels real in that interview rather than what a PR person would tell him to say.

I think when you look at Hugo's reaction to Son in the Everton game, that's a captain setting standards and properly digging out a lazy team mate. He seems like a very serious pro to me. I've always admired Lloris (drink driving charge aside). He's gone up even further in my estimation after this.

You can show anger in an interview without making comments that could potentially cause deeper splits in the dressing room. The things he said and the clash with Son are all things that should be done in private. Maybe I'm wrong and it will force a clear the air talks and improve things, but I think it's equally as likely to cause further problems, especially as Lloris hasn't exactly been covering himself in glory this season.

Well flip it the other way, if Mourinho had said this would you and others be saying well done - or would it be a case of oh look there’s Mourinho calling out the players. I wonder.....

I'd say yes, but truth is two things

- A lot of pros laugh at this stuff, they say brick/fights/etc. happen all the time, it's part of the game (supporters/media make way more out of it than the players)
- Some players need to be dug out, and we can say poor form on Lloris and Jose in the way they did it, but anyone who doesn't think (we can name them) certain players don't need a kick up the ass is blind.

Fair challenge. I actually praised Mourinho’s interview on here last night. I think I’ve usually been fairly consistent on this stuff. I’ll criticise Mourinho if he throws specific players under the bus like he did with Ndombele and Dele. I don’t think I’ve ever criticised him for having a go at the collective as long as he takes responsibility too as Hugo did.

I'm not saying players don't need a kick up the ass, there are several that do and need to be got rid of it we can. But in general, calling people out in public leads to a different reaction than doing it in private. If you're called out in front of a load of people you're more likely to fight back, do it in private calmly and the reaction might be better. Of course, different people react differently to these things.

Yeah I saw you did, I don’t know why I put ‘you’ as you’ve always criticised fairly - my bad.....
