We are delighted to announce that we have completed the transfer of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Hoffenheim.

The attacking midfielder is no stranger to the Premier League having enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Swansea City during the second half of last season.

He scored seven times in 19 appearances as well as picking up the Barclay's Player of the Month award for March.

The Iceland international originally moved to England with Reading, coming through their academy to make 51 appearances and scoring 23 times. He was named Player of the Year in his only full season in the Royals First Team before moving to the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim in 2010.

Very surprised.

Honestly, cannot say I have an opinion on the guy. Maybe I should have kept a closer eye on him last season - I remember his goals on MotD, but not much else.

But I will say that for AVB to make him his first signing is some compliment, given that last year at Chelsea AVB would have been able - in theory, anyway - to buy just about any player in the world and would thus have a bulging dossier on players. And yet he chooses Sigurdsson first up. That's quite something.

Anyway, good luck Gylfi and you are very welcome.

I wonder if it was AVB or Levy's doing?

Very happy about this, already proven to be a great performer in this league and just 22. Just need Vert now and then to address the striker issue. So glad everything has started to happen early on.

Delighted with this signing, I'm a big fan of Iceland and have spent some time over there, great to have GS on board. Top, top player. ENTER THE SIG.
