Europa League 2020/21 - Round of 16: Dinamo Zagreb (CRO)

I hereby predict that a couple of their players will be brilliant and we will sign one of them in a year or two.

Zagreb will be slightly in awe of us for 20 minutes, we need to make them pay before they realise we suck; bad.

Can someone with a brain and memory remind me about when we played Monaco, I saw the other day that Mbappe got the record for assisting as a 16 year old against us... who else played that day, I think we got spanked but they actually had good players?

We've played them a few times recently The Mbappe game you refer to was a Europa League Group game in 2015. We won 4-1 at home with a Lamela hat trick and then one from Tom Carroll. Mbappe came on as a second half sub and assisted their goal. We had drawn 1-1 in the away tie.

We also played them the following season in the Champions League and lost both games 2-1. Bernardo Silva and Fabinho both played for them.

So did Mendy didn’t he?
And didn’t falcao too

Just checked.. top of the Croatian league. Won their Europa group (Feyonoord, Wolfsberger and CSKA without losing) and just beat Krasnodar in those last round
Cheers ! The Balkans have provided quality players and national teams as we know, so we cannot afford to be slack - wolfsberger didn't really cause us problems, but dinamo will. Defending will be key! Going forward we can score against the best of them (unless it's a really compact low block so we would need bits of skill luck, and innovation)

Falcao played in the Champions League games....Moutinho and Lemar played in both.
Cheers GDPR

The good old days of 2016 eh...

Tottenham were knocked out of the Champions League as they were comprehensively outclassed by Monaco at Stade Louis II.
Harry Kane's penalty, awarded when Dele Alli was pulled back, put Spurs on level terms but, 39 seconds later, Monaco had the ball in the net again through Thomas Lemar.
The Ligue 1 title hopefuls cut through Spurs with ease from the outset, with full-backs Sidibe and Benjamin Mendy a constant menace.
Spurs defender Kevin Wimmer had a night to forget, but it was centre-back partner Eric Dier at fault for Monaco's first-half penalty, lunging in clumsily on Fabinho. Falcao took the spot-kick, but his effort was tame and Lloris saved.
The French goalkeeper also made a double save from Mendy and Valere Germain but had no chance with Monaco's opener, the hosts again working the ball with ease to the left flank, from where Mendy crossed for the unmarked Sidibe to head in.
Kane's penalty four minutes later was the England striker's first Champions League goal, but Spurs' defensive frailties were again exposed straight from kick-off.
Monaco required just four passes as they worked the ball seamlessly into the area, where Lemar drilled low past Lloris.
Only a quite incredible save from Lloris to keep out Kamil Glik's thunderous strike kept Monaco within touching distance, but a third goal - or indeed a fourth - would not have flattered Leonardo Jardim's side.

5 years on and little has changed! :D

Like I said in another thread a few days ago, we were told then that these players were young and would learn from their mistakes, and yet...

Sometimes you just gave to accept that a player is not as good as you thought they would become.

it is why the sensible thing this summer would be to sell Doherty, unfortunately he isn’t as good as the club thought he was.... I wonder whether he benefitted from playing behind Traore for example, with Traore always attracting two players, thus making Doherty look better than he actually is?

Doubt it
Traore only played well for half a season
I do believe he would have benefited from a Settled side though and a regular CB a set up and keeper
