Transfer rumours - summer 2021 edition

How do you all know this stuff?

Seriously you guys must either know some top notch people in the club or have access to people that do.

I keep reading how Levy did this, that it the other and I’m amazed that we have so many well connected people on here

Keep it up guys

A lot of them believe what they read in the news and on line.;)

From reading the posts of Finney Is Back above.
Parklane is just talking at crossed purposes about whether Levy would pay the amount, and we all know Levy would pay the amount eventually.
But he didn't pay it decisively in the first week of contact, he waited weeks until it was too late, I remember it happening [only via press reports] at the time, we moved too slowly.

We are serial offenders but that is mainly according to ‘the press’, as you say!

And we all know how many fans are daft enough to believe what they read in the press.
Do you believe we generally move decisively in the transfer market? There are times we certainly have, Modric springs to mind, Dele as well, signing him ahead of the curve.

Generally though whether we go purely off the press reports or what we see and feel ourselves you have to say we do have a habit of finishing transfers rather late in Windows...and sometimes not all.

Would you say that's a fair opinion?

To a point yes it is, however we all know we have not been in the driving seat when it comes to the really big names ( we may be looking at a better position this next summer if it had not been for Covid), but if we were to believe every player that has been mentioned alongside our name in the press then more fool us fans for believing in it. Reporters get paid for writing a story and they are not too bothered if those stories are true or not, sadly there are a lot of fans who STILL believe what they read and of course when it does not happen the club get the blame.

In the past we have had to rely on punts more then sure things because of our lack of funds to compete with the money doped clubs, we all hoped the new ground would have changed that but alas Covid spoilt that idea, although we have spent more then we normally have been able to do this last 12 months.

This plus the fact that agents use Spurs (among other clubs) to generate issue in their player (even if we were never in for them), so so much noise to sort

It's been explained before by people actually in industry
- Spurs typically don't have a single target, they have multiple for each position with some prioritization
- We need to convince the club, player and obviously agree on cost and structure of payments
- Most clubs don't want to sell too early in window (someone might come along and offer more money), so will often delay
- We might be able to get 2nd/3rd choice but be waiting to see if 1st choice happens.

So unless the player wants Spurs only (see PEH example), they are our #1 choice and the price is right, it won't likely happen quickly

People like to compare to other clubs, so lets do that, Klopp want VVD, Pool was willing to pay £70M+, he was their only target and it still took what? 18 months to close the deal. This is just reality.

Do we need to be better? = absolutely, but lets not pretend it's simple.

We operate in the same way as every other club that just can't afford to pay whatever it takes willy nilly. We're not the only club involved when it comes to transfers. It appears many people think so. None other than clubs, agents and player knows what's going on in a particular transfer. We lose some and we get some, just like every other club!
Reading here one is to believe that every other club gets every player they want, and at the time they want, and we are the only club that doesn't. Some need a fudging reality check!

prio a dominant CB. That is what I want. we have Rodon and Tanganga alongside.

That will probably be the choice

- Do a "bigger" window with more in, more refresh but less expensive players
- Do a "smaller" where you prioritize 1 or 2 first team players and correct HG balance, e.g. Sanchez, Sissoko, Rose, Winks, Dele out -> non HG top quality CB in, HG 2nd keeper and you get one more freed up non HG spot (just as example)

I'd opt for the second, but just may be me overrating our squad and not knowing how much refresh is still needed

Have you not played Football Manager and seen how easy transfers are to do?
