Eric Dier

Formals is West Ham’s left sided attacking player. He is non-figuratively Tanganga’s player.
I get you but he isn't coming from the left hand side so unless we are operating a man marking system then defenders pick up players as they come into their zones. Fornals never comes into Tangana's zone.

Like you said earlier he should have been picked up by Moura or even Ndombele who was free and marking space. Then Dier doesn't leave the man in his zone who he is tough tight with at the last second giving him a free attempt at goal. Potentially when Dier did swap Tangana should have been more switched on (a genuine criticism of his play, I've noticed this happens to him at times) but still I just can't get past Dier leaving the man he had. He may be just be unlucky but it's consistent and maybe the best defenders are just lucky with their decisions playing out well. Dier's don't.

Jose hasn't learned his lessons despite time and time again providing chances to Dier.

He's unfit to be a No1 CB for a club looking to finish anywhere in the Top 8, and we should be looking at Top 4 on an annual basis. brick.

Put Rodon there who may make the odd mistakes but at least can learn and benefit from the experience and play a stronger role next season.

Interesting point. Are you sure Rodon is ready? Are you sure you are willing to accept his mistakes? Jose, Ledley and Jose's second do look at them in training.

I don't think Dier is a top 4 CB but I am trusting the management team to pick the adequate team for the occasion given the various factors.

If Rodon is currently a worse prospect than either of Dier or Sanchez right now then it's pretty concerning that we bought him this season. You could argue he's one for the future but our present is a struggle right now.

I think he is either one for the future or squad rotation to allow first team players to rest.

Again I'd say I find it concerning he might only be considered good enough currently as a rotation option that doesn't even get used. When you look at the mistakes that the starters are making match after match it doesn't say much for Rodon's prospects. [emoji848]

simple answer this.

In the next 3 years, who do you expect to still be a a CB at the club out of:

Rodon, Dier, Toby, Sanchez?

Because it's abundantly clear it won't be Toby, and it's highly unlikely to be Sanchez or Dier. Now, Rodon is young, and yes may make mistakes, but as @Bishop pointed out, he can't be worse than what we have, and if we expect him to still be around in next 3 years compared to our other CBs then surely it makes sense to keep him on the pitch now?

In a perfect world, if our current CBs were performing, then of course without question he wouldn't be starting. But, that's not where we are is it?

Out of those four,

Rodon hasn't been tested enough at this level
Toby is too old
Dier may still be here
Sanchez may still be here

A fan can't judge if Rodon is worse or better than Dier better than the management team as we don't see them in training.

It reminds of how we were all clamouring for Parrott to be starting and then when he played, what happened - disappointment.

For the goal?
Shocking IMO I mean he let the ball hit him rather than go to the ball
Same as the palace goal
Dier was awful
But it’s him abs Hugo again.. maybe there speaking foreign languages to each other

Lloris is gone and he has had a shocking time this season, our number one signing this summer has to be a new keeper. All keepers make mistakes but he seems to be doing nearly every game this season.

No, he didn't lose his man, he left Antonio to go with the man running to the near post. If he didn't go with him and he got on the end of it and scored you'd also be slaughtering Dier.
The problem was nobody marking Fornal and covering his run. Dier had a choice to make, go with Fornal and trust Lloris and Tanganga to cover Antonio or stay and leave Fornal free.
He made the right choice, but Tanganga and especially Lloris didn't deal with Antonio.

I don't know how to use the like button.

That’s my issue with him
There is no reaction from any player when we concede like it too
They just all kinda stare blankly

Yep we can call out our defenders as much as we like ( not saying they do not deserve it on occasions) but having a keeper behind you that you can not trust to do the right thing is not a help. And i say that as a guy who played CB for many years.

I'm not suggesting Rodon has been tested at this level.

My question is, 3 years from today, who has the best chance of being a starting CB at Tottenham? Do you seriously think Sanchez or Dier may still be options for CB 3 years from now? sheesh, maybe you're right if we're in the Championship.

I'm not judging whether he's better or worse, but given we spent £15m to bring him in now and our current CBs are absolute tinkle then he literally cannot do worse, and will put him in good stead for the future too. Trent Alexander was starting for Liverpool at 17, if Rodon is good enough, he should start given how poor our current crop is. If he isn't good enough, why did we buy him? If he is good enough but needs more game time, why didn't he play in Cup games vs Everton or Wolfsburg? All valid questions that Jose has to own.

Big difference here. Rodin is 23, has lots of Championship experience and starts for Wales.
