Dele Alli

Can’t he have had a mixed game?
He came on and done some decent stuff
He covered a few times
He did a silly flick without knowing where his team mates were
He was on for 15 minutes ...
I mean he didn’t change the world but he didnt do anything much wrong other than that flick
Yeah he could maybe do more as we have seen before but I’ve also seen him play worse
Today was just a step in the right direction

No. no, he has to be brick .. or if he's good, Lucas has to be brick .. isn't that the rules?

Thought he had a mediocre game (but no worse than Kane/Son)

I'd give him the game Wednesday (even if it's just to rest others), lets see.

I wouldn’t say mediocre
I would say on par with some others

Agree re Dele, once again did nothing to claim a spot, disagree with the other two

Lamela did one of the best solo runs of any player (shook off at least 3 West Ham players fouling him) this season, delivered a perfect pass to Kane who put it in row Z, Lucas scored, and both of them got into positions way more.

This isn't a who is better, this is who is taking their moments, based on today, Lucas and Lamela will play again, Dele?
I agree it's not about one being better than the other. For me none of them were up to par.

He was on par with them. It's just that that par was mediocre. [emoji28]

Without an Eriksen our 3 behind the striker is just rather middling. They all have massive flaws, all make their own version of brain-dead decisions.

I suppose Dele probably has the most money in the bank but in truth even when at his pomp I was never really a fan of his. He was one of those starting players I wanted to upgrade on at the time.

It’s not about the flick, its about his attitude and decision making.
The flick is all about decision making. Looking back, and as a sub par average player myself, his main option was to control the ball and go from there. He decided to flick. And it gave the ball away.

Lamela's run was excellent. I wish we'd see more of them. I wish he'd been able to force matters more in the first-half. I wish he was able to force matters more in the previous games where he has undoubtably worked hard but produced little. Lucas had a decent game today in the second-half, once Bale was on the pitch funnily enough. I wish he could do more of it on a consistent basis. Dele was on the pitch for 15 minutes, was in position for a virtual tap-in of Kane had played the pass a split second quicker, knitted play together around the box, won a free-kick in a dangerous position when boxed in and tried a flick which also had me groaning, but comes with the territory. Yet you are telling me that Dele had less of a moment than Lamela today based on what? Opinions are precisely that. Not facts.

I'll re-state my personal opinion that if we actually want to get anything from this season, Mourinho needs to start trusting a couple of his bigger, better skill players to produce. Bale should be starting right now, and I'd really like to see Dele given more than a 10-15 minute run out here and there. These are players who have feel and touch that others just don't have. It requires us to play more front-foot, but second-half today showed how much better we are when we do. Audere et facere...and that, for me, includes Dele.

Indeed. Thankfully he didn't listen in Amsterdam for example...
Wasn’t really a flick though was it? and again thats 1 out of how many that have failed? I wonder if we went back to the Champions League final how many he attempted and failed? I’ll be quite confident there will be 1 or 2 in there.

We'll have to disagree mate re Dele. Yes Lamela had a better game, you could argue by how much, but he had a better game.

- Bale, yes, he's showing it's fitness and time, it's coming back for him.
- In addition, Bale was a superstar for a decade, he won everything mate, to bracket him and Dele anywhere close is crazy.

Dele's path out is simple

- He's going to play mid table Austrian side on Wednesday, dominate them, embarrass them, help us run up a cricket score

Because Lucas has and does show up against lower opposition, so will Lamela and he (Dele) needs to show them up, if he does, Jose will give him a chance (see Aurier, Ndombele, etc.)

If Lamela remains at Spurs while Dele is sold it would be criminal. (Unless of course the club is completely skirt and needs to raise all of the money to be spent on two new CBs this summer).

He did that earlier. He knitted a lot of tight possession on the edges of the box. He tried a flick that failed (I groaned too). If that is going to get him pelters over everything else, then the game is lost and so are we.

There are times to try flicks and extravagant play and times that you don’t

In the last 15 minutes of a game we were chasing definitely wasn’t

The time to try flicks is when you’re on top in the game, getting it up to the edge of the opposition’s penalty area consistently but not actually creating any good chances. When it is something special that is going to get you a goal.

But that's it, they aren't related (i.e. Dele & Lamela)

- Would you not trade Dele (if we keep Kane, Son & Bale) for 1 (not even 2) top level CB? (think Dele/Sanchez/Rose out -> 1 CB in) I would all day long
- Similarly Lamela simply isn't going to generate enough money, is happy to fight for his place and be rotation, so absolutely could see him staying.

Why not just carry on trying what lead to 0 decent chances for the rest of the game?

And he’ll probably have a good game on Wednesday as he’s a class above the opposition but would he against the Goons?

Probably not although I would love to see it!

Would he regain previous form under a new manager?
Unlikely as he went off under Poch and hasn’t done it under Jose

Difficult one as if we sell him this Summer we might not get market value

I'd really like to see a good game from him Wednesday, he's had moments but the only good/dominating game I can recall this season was Marine.

I also agree, he's off the boil, does game time fix that? didn't for Eriksen (even under new manager)

We won't get what he was worth a year or two ago, but it may be pragmatic time, anything above £35-40M +sell a couple others if invested right could make a big difference next year.
