Davinson Sanchez

I dont rate Sanchez but I think its tough for him and the other CBs given that we seem to change our CB pairing from week to week, and whether we're playing back 4 or back 3.
Personally I'd play Dier and Rodon week in, week out til the end of the season in the league so that they develop an understanding, and then for the EL play Toby and Sanchez every game for the same reason (I'm assuming that Tanganga continues to not be viewed as a CB by Jose)

He’s supposed to be quick

Full stop

Can’t pass
Can’t tackle
Can’t mark or track back
Wins the odd header

Gets bullied far too easily

Their third goal sums him up to a tee but some posters thought he did ok!
LOL

That was one incident. You can’t judge his entire performance on 5 seconds of play. Did he do anything else wrong yesterday?

He did play well for most of the game but it's all ruined by one huge mistake leading to the goal. Just like goalkeepers defenders are judged a lot on the number of mistakes they make.
Sanchez makes too many and is never far from his next one. Until he cuts them out he will never be a top-class defender and he's old enough now that he shouldn't be making them.

So he was there to make the mistake, what the rest of the defence that was totally missing.
Gundogan ran from the halfway line and only one guy got anywhere near, are they absolved?

Ah, so someone else didn't clear it either, a great excuse. He messed up what should have been a straightforward headed clearance.

Toby + 1 other for me. Preferably Rodon

Between reggie, Serge, Dier, rodon, Tanganga and Sanchez we have the making of a decent defensive base to build on, especially with Peh in front of them.
Toby is done and needs to be moved on, Davies is so so but not going to get any better.
If someone has the guts to stick with it and actually train them as a unit then they will be fine to get on with.

Serge and Reggie absolutely. Rodon and Tanganga, jury still out on both and would be unfair to fully judge yet. A hell no for Sanchez and Dier from me. Neither are good enough to be CB’s for a top 6 club. Toby is old but he’s miles better than Dier and Sanchez. At least he has good instincts, it’s just his body isn’t up to it. Dier has been tried out now at DM, RB and CB and hasn’t made any position his own. Squad player IMO. Sanchez is just dogbrick and needs to be moved on.

It's not an excuse, it's a legitimate question, are you on any other the threads castigating them for it?
It is an excuse, he made the biggest blunder and this is the Sanchez thread, so I'm discussing Sanchez. I've stated elsewhere we need two new starting CBs and Dier isn't good enough.
Others being crap doesn't excuse him being crap which is the point of your argument.

I wasn’t just talking about Saturday’s game

Also directly responsible for one of Everton’s goals because he ball watches and doesn’t follow his man back
No football brain
Distribution shocking

Some give him a free pass because he’s quick and athletic
So is Usain Bolt
Doesn’t make him a footballer

I would play Toby with Rodon whenever possible rather than Sanchez or Dier

It was just downright embarrassing ending up on his arse like that after getting bullied by a player that size

You could also be describing Aurier

Always a major mistake in him

The worrying thing is that I think he actually might be a better centre back than Dier.

He has the attributes, but he has two issues that are very hard to fix

- He almost every game switches off at some point and get's caught out (88 minutes of good, 2 minutes of absolute brick)
- He's "unlucky" and I'm being serious, he's one of those players that almost every mistake he makes gets punished. To use your Dier comparison, Dier may make 3 mistakes a game and sometimes he gets away with it, Sanchez makes one, it's a fudging goal.

He's been here what 4 seasons now? two coaches, very senior CBs to learn from, hasn't .. he's better off in another league.
