Transfer rumours - summer 2021 edition

Going to watch nice v monaco tonight purely to see how Badiashile gets on.

I really hope our scouts are doing similar. I think a lot of the issues can be down to the lack of pace in our defence. Half the time Dier and Sanchez and toby are so far behind the play you can see a mistake coming because their rushing to get back into position.

Going to have a serious amount of work to do in the summer:

- GK: is there anything in the rumours about Lloris to PSG? He's also 34 so needs a successor soon soon. Our back-up GK situation desperately needs improving too
- RB/LB: probably no change given the amount of other deals to be done
- CB: GHod knows how many we need. Probably 2? And find someone to take Sanchez off our hands.
- CM: Skipp returns which adds some depth but could do with a box-to-box CM too
- wide forwards/attackers: need more depth as there's a gulf in class/effectiveness between Son, Bergwign and their back-ups. Moura and Lamela are 29 this year so values falling very soon and probably need to be shipped out. Bale is an easy question based on output so far
- no 10 role: keep or sell Dele?
- CF: need to either sign Vinicius for an appropriate price or an alternative

There's a lot of business to be done...and the financial details of some will have knock-on implications for other positions given we dont have infinite cash available.

Plus the old HG chestnut will be tough as some of the incoming players really need to be HG, and we probably cant lose many/any HG players either (so Winks, Dele etc probably need to stay)

edit: the main saving grace is that most of the signings which we need to make are back-up players, rather than first 11 players

GK - pope or Henderson (both wouldn’t be cheap though)
CB - Tarkowski (1 year left in his contract)
RB - aaron’s if we can get Norwich to sell (that’s assuming Aurier wants out still, so that can change constantly)
CM - Oliver Skipp
CM - Milenko Savic
WF - lookman
WF - Bailey from Leverkusen
Striker - Ings (he will kick off to leave soon I think, like PEH did)

Fair old outlay if we picked up all those above!!! We're going to need to find a few PEH-type deals where value is way cheaper than the contribution which they'll make

Isnt Ings a SCBC fan? I doubt he'll leave if so

Lookman I like, and similarly Pope/Henderson

The best £20m we could spend will be paying off Jose's contract (though actually the net impact would probably be, say, £10m if we're going to pay his successor less than what he's on)

Obviously shipping players out will be a challenge too, including finding buyers for our outcasts and clubs who are also able to pay their wages. Will buyers will willing to pay Sanchez £65k per week, Moura £80k, Lamela £80k? Might be tough....

Ings is but he also is out of contract soon and wants to play Europe

I’d guess the outlay would be £200m ish
I think we could (if we can sell the players we want) bring in half of that in sales

but as always it’s hypothetical and unrealistic on every level

so much depends on the COVID impact on clubs including our own

I know talk's cheap but hasn't Lloris been quite blunt in the past over ever playing for PSG?

Sounds good to me, he also loves poch like a father.... who in the GKing world is world class at the moment ? I'm not talking Pope who is a fantastic keeper, I'm talking game changing keeper like Schmeichel, Khan, Van der Saar, Allison Ederson etc ...

I meant with regards to not playing for PSG.. although i might be getting mixed up with Monaco.

As for replacements, no idea - bit of a minefield GKs.

I'd be happy with Pope myself though i think we have Lloris for another year yet.

Don't forget we'll have Sessegon back as well, could mean we can get rid of Davies unless he moves into midfield. I think there's potentially 4 or 5 regaular starters - GK, 2 X CB, CM, Winger.

The BIG question is who gets that funding.
My preference is another manager, even if it means another year of this.
The worst case scenario is to buy in the summer for a manager who typically does not stay anywhere beyond a few seasons; it is a distinct danger. The time to back him was now/last couple of window, and he appeared happy with what he had.

Skipp? Worth it. Aarons? Not an upgrade for me. Lookman? Decent but would've been here by now if worth it. Bailey? Inconsistent? Savic? Is he really worth it? Ings? Agree and I think we can get him for 30 as I think he might refuse contract extension.

Otherwise these are not upgrades, they are lateral "fresh blood".

ALOT will depend on who we manage to shift.

Sanchez out new CB in
Aurier > RB
Lamela + Moura > RWF + LWF
Winks or Sissoko > CM
Vinicius > CF

I think both Skipp and Sess come back in to the fold as a definite and then it's a case of one in one out as per the above

I agree up to here. That said, I'd hope that in the event that Jose is in charge during the summer his main additions (or biggest £££ spent) would be at CB and not too wasted if he's then sacked. I really hope that if he's around he doesnt flog players who are somewhat unique (eg dele) and who a new manager might get better use of (bigger hope though is that he's been booted by then!)
