Dele Alli

I think - knowing Mourinho - that’s a rhetorical question ;) but I personally would yes. With one sitter (PEH) and two working together in front of him (Dele and Ndombele) as box to box.

But this is just my wishful thinking that a) that set up would actually work and b) Dele is poised to show everyone he’s on his way back to his best.

It's not Mourinho's job to ensure Dele's success, it's his job to make Spur's successful full stop.

While what you say makes sense, Jose isn't going to take chances, to me it comes down to the midfield choice (front 3 is set).

Assuming midfield is PEH, Ndombele +1, does Dele fit in the +1 against Fulham? or are we going to go with more of a workhorse? (e.g. Sissoko)
Against Fulham... I’d love to have an extra attacking mid

Yes, was/is a very effective presser and his numbers for blocks, interceptions, tackles and ball recoveries are as high as any other front 5/6 player for us over the last few seasons.

Said it above, it wasn't the effort but the actual (largely successful) attempt to control the game that was different for Dele.

Too often he will do the work, make runs, etc. but let someone else (Eriksen most of the times in the past) "run the game" hence the perception for a lot of people even when he was playing well was he didn't contribute much other than goals (for what that statement is worth)

When you set up to play with a playmaker, like we did with Eriksen, you don't want a second player trying to run the game? Seems a strange thing to criticise a player for, despite that, on the ball, i think he's shown as much as any other CM/AM in the same time period with the obvious exception of Eriksen himself.

fudge sakes here we go, Dele's always worked hard off the ball - it's nothing new

This, he's actually a really good presser in games - one of the most effective in Europe, actually. A Statsbomb article from summer 2019 pointed out that in Dele, Lo Celso and Ndombele, we had built Europe's most talented side in terms of carrying out a high press - didn't work like that, but the stats were there.

However, I think his decision making has always let him down - too much of a focus on the instinctual over the measured. When it comes off, it's grand, but it's also lazy and hurts us when it doesn't. In that respect, there were defo a lot of positive signs against Marine of him getting his head up and playing the smart ball as opposed to the instinctual flick.

Against basically amateurs, true, but I think it's the principle more than anything else - play quick, play smart, don't dilly-dally with the ball. Mourinho was evidently happy, and I hope Dele gets back into the team a bit more now.

In the many games he has played post/without Eriksen, I can't recall him "imposing" himself on the game like he did with Marine (even against other similar lower level sides)

I'm not calling him out, or saying he never had the ability, I'm saying in my observation he hasn't done it (similar to Harry always being able to pass, but this season is very different) and is probably his best chance to make a place again in PL first 11.

Being honest, I’m no fan of Jose, and I’d like to see Dele at a club (not in England) and get some minutes. So I hope he can get a loan rather than wait for seventeen other players to get an injury for Jose to use him.

I expect pelters for wanting to weaken our squad, but f you if you throw them.

If he's not going to get time here then my next choice would be for him to go out on loan and get back playing regularly and then reassess in the summer.

From a club perspective sending him on loan can help maintain his value
If he ain’t getting games here then no point keeping him here just in case anymore

I know football is a heartless business and so many of our former players have been treated like utter dogbrick by the club. I guess we can add Dele to the list of players being unfairly treated based on Jose's comments. He's a well paid employee of a business entity and has a special place for many of us as a vital component of a team that played gorgeous football and ALMOST won things. I'd much prefer is Jose kept his flap shut on this one and focused on the part of his job that pertains to us not letting in goals while desperately trying to cling on to slender 1-0 leads.

Maybe dele is wrong and is not showing the fight that Mourinho wants.

Current gaffer knows world class players and grafters with the mentality. He just doesn't see it in alli ... fair enough.

Put it to bed, sell him and get sabitzer in.

Over night we have a midfield that looks at it along with PEH, TD.

Ali just look at tanguy.... you were the golden boy while tanguy got his head down .... how times have changed.
