Jose Mourinho - SACKED

On the league cup point: the winning things has been banded out quite a bit by Kane but It do think CL matters more overall - wages are likely linked to it for a start. A season of a cup and no CL will be tolerable due to the drought but I’m sure Jose would be under pressure to deliver CL next season to keep his job.

F365 nailed it:

As concerning as the uncanny predictability of these results has become, though, must be the identity of the teams pegging Spurs back. Saudi Sportswashing Machine. West Ham. Crystal Palace. Wolves. Fulham. This is not elite clubs forcing Spurs on to the back foot, it is Spurs constantly ceding territory and possession in the seemingly heartfelt yet baffling and wrong belief that this time things will be different.

Surely things change as proficiency increases.

If he’s entrusting a right midfield slot to Sissoko (who was much higher up than usual) over Bale, Moura, Lamela, and maybe even Dele (even though that’s not his position) at home to Fulham then I’d say the squad is a mess.

Could have laid that team out 10 different ways to be more proactive and give better quality support to Kane and Son but JOSE chose that method. There was a moment (a few actually) when Sissoko got into decent positions and the correct runs were made by Kane and Son and they were just not used/found.

This isn’t an anti Sissoko piece btw, more trying to explain why Kane and Son will perform lower with lower quality attackers round them.

Siss is no longer a RW
Not his position now so play him further back where can cover Aurier or Doherty who aren’t good enough

But who can he trust
Bale?
Dele?
Lamela fir 90 mins?
No in my opinion

But dress it up how you like we created enough chances to have won this game comfortably
They just weren’t taken and that’s not on Jose

If they had and we won the game as we should have it would have been a Jose masterclass

Dier didn't get 'beat' in the air.... I would've had no problem if Dier had challenged for that ball and their forward had won the header.... He completely missed the ball. They had one player in the box and Dier wasn't marking him and then didn't win the header.... you do one or the other (mark the player so he doesn't have a free header or win the header before it reaches their sole player. It was absolutely dogbrick defending.

Took another look at it and you have a point. It was poor defending from Dier.

What I would say, is that as the guy is breaking on the left, Dier is defending the centre back position and there is no Fulham player there. Reguilon is behind Dier and has two players. So Reguilon should be screaming at Dier to watch that danger. Dier has also taken a glance over his shoulder so should have an idea of what's behind him. So I think Dier is guilty of bad positioning/awareness and if Reguilon didn't bawl him out of it to drop, he's got some culpability too. But it's still mainly on Sanchez for me. He was embarrassing with how easy he got turned.

Beating a team in the bottom 3 is not a masterclass its par for the course.

And yes, each and every one of those players should be the in the team in last night's circumstances ahead of Sissoko

Doesn't matter how many chances we miss if we still decide to to sit off on a 1 goal lead.

What's with all the Sissoko hate when he's been head and shoulders above several other players?

Aside from Kane's goal yesterday he was poor. Son was non-existant in that formation. Winks, once again, offers NOTHING to the team.

Seems like people want to slate Sissoko when he yet again was back defending and actually contributed to one of the handful of chances of us getting into the box, certainly more than Winks that's for sure.

Last week vs Leeds he was even better.

So we played Leeds off the park
Pressed them and won the ball high up
Scored 3 and kept a clean sheet
The common factor in that game was football intelligence and player who can pass well
But Jose does like certain players who can’t pass.. that I just can’t get my head around
The common factor was the way Leeds play. We've seen enough times it's sh.it or bust football, so hard to read.

I think it's highly possible this is the situation between Levy and mourinho. Grown men solving real life problems. No instant solutions.
Do you think Jose is still desperately trying to bring in further reinforcements to improve the squad this window or do you think he is reasonably happy with what he has? It would be interesting to know. Maybe he thinks We need need better CBs, Doesn't rate Winks, Wants a better RB etc. It's sort of hard to judge someone until they have something close to what they want, I mean he wanted Hojbjerg badly when none of the other big clubs wanted him and he is so integral to the way we play is almost the glue that is preventing this side from capitulating anymore than it already does. Maybe he has already said to Levy 'Look, There are still a lot of holes in this squad. We need x, y and z and we also need to shift him, him and him because they are not good enough.'

Bolded part is true, Jose doesn't play the game on the night. But every tactical analysis I've read points out how we sit back, and while he had majority possession last night, we did the same thing AGAIN. As pointed out by every football writer. And while Jose may say he doesn't tell them to do that, he's not fixing a problem. Even AVB was able to stop us shipping late goals. So if Jose can't change how this squad plays, that is on him.

I think that’s a fair logic but how many teams have kept a clean sheet vs Leeds?
When we win games sometimes it’s more than just the opposition being weak and playing into our hands

They're in the bottom 3, but they're a much better team now than they were earlier in the season. Beating Leicester, drawing against Liverpool and Southampton (as well as Brighton and Saudi Sportswashing Machine).

Our xG was 3.14, theirs 1.05.

They played well in the second half, we weren't as good at in the first half. But we didn't just sit off. If we had been sitting off would Sanches be out by the corner flag trying to stop a cross?

There have been several very frustrating games where we've deservedly dropped points because we both sat back and failed to create anything of note going forward. This game to me wasn't one of those games. Still frustrating, but for other reasons.

There was a noticeable shift post half time break in the intent, the possession stats at the time we conceded told the story - we didnt sit back ultra deep like we have in other games but we stood off more and allowed them more time and territorial advantage than in the first half. When they scored it was something that had been coming - not something out of the blue.

Was there a single Spurs fan anywhere that didn't see that goal coming? Because literally every friend of mine in our Spurs whatsapp chat called it in the first half.
Who was better vs Leeds?

I meant vs Brentford not Leeds. Sissoko was immense.

There definitely was a shift. At least partly because Fulham started playing better and they're a pretty good team these days. As a result we struggled at times, but there was also a clear difference between this and previous games where we've both sat deeper and created very little.

Still obviously a lot of room for improvement. But if we can play games like this consistently, games where we create more and better chances than our opponents, the results will come imo.

I don't think the goal was something that had been coming in the same way as it has been in the past. I think we looked about as likely to score a second as they were to equalise. Illustrated by the Son chance.

Still not good enough that second half, but better none the less imo. And the first half was very good.

I’m down on Jose right now and tinkled at how he keeps making the same mistake. But he has improved players and we might be losing sight of that.

For two years Hugo was very good but making mistakes every other week. There were people on here seriously saying Gazza should be first choice over him. Since the first lockdown, Hugo has made very few mistakes and I can’t think of any calamitous errors (maybe Palace albeit that was harder than it looked).

Aurier is a much better player than he was pre Jose. By and large, the brain farts are gone.

Dier has benefitted from a consistent position and run in the team and I think has been arguably our best player since the first lockdown. He was looking finished under Poch.

Davies has looked more solid.

Ndombele has improved massively under Jose. Some of that is him having settled but some of it is Jose’s management.

A couple of years ago, people were saying Kane and Son couldn’t play together. In the CL season, there was a narrative in the press and on here that we were a better team without Kane. Jose has found a way for them to play together to the extent that everyone thinks they are the best duo in the League and arguably the best in PL history. Harry’s game is also more complete and I’d argue Sons is too. Sadly, in many games recently, I think Jose’s tactics are restricting their ability to show it.

A lot more sense in that post then some of the hysterical ramblings that others have posted.

True.

Its the games we lose/draw, i can't say we look much better than the team we are playing. And we have 2 genuinely world class strikers.

And that is not me thinking we should or have a right to be rolling these teams over, just what i see on a game by game basis. Perhaps the quality (top to bottom) is just better these days?

Ignoring Marine the last three games I think we've looked better. Deservedly beat Leeds, deservedly beat Brentford, deserved to beat Fulham, but were wasteful.
