Coronavirus

in conjunction with a vaccine, it might.

There are going to be a lot of people around without vaccinations for a relatively long time. How long does the vaccine last? Who knows. How long does natural immunity last? Who knows? The virus will continue to circulate. There will be outbreaks, and new strains. We will need to contain and squash those outbreaks (a la NZ, China, Taiwan etc) for some time to come, I’d imagine.
Track and trace will only delay at best.

There's absolutely no good reason to think immunity won't be long term or permanent.

attending a funeral over Zoom, watching just 2 people allowed to the crematorium to pay respects whilst speaking through full PPE, Mask, Visor... it's not a way to go for anyone. So many people deserve better than to die alone without their loved ones, and then without their loved ones to even grieve appropriately by seeing them off...

My brother in law is not allowed to visit in a respite care where he is actually dieing because the local hospital is full.

They said only one person was allowed in and that was my brother in laws own brother. He was also told he can only go to a funeral if the was only 6 there.

It is a sickening situation.

I don’t know if this is the right thread for this, but will post here any way.

Pretty much all politicians are clams. We have some proper knobheads in Australia. But fudge me I feel sorry for you lot that this is what you’ve got. Genuinely wish we could rid the earth of scum like this.

He is a very odd human being and should be no where near a position of power.

He is also very creepy around women.

COVID-19 would be very unusual if I'm not.

The results of the SIREN study were released this morning. They tested a lot of front line health workers and had around 6.5K infected. Of those only 2 have been confirmed with reinfections. Neither have been reported to have symptoms.

I saw that. Really good news.

Daughter had her regular vaccinations this week and now nursery have sent her home due to the fever they cause, understandable but annoying. Luckily they told us late afternoon yesterday and managed to get a test booked the same evening, got myself tested as well. Pretty smooth but the staff there are casual to say the least - supposed to check the swab has been taken properly (not sure how), didn't even look before saying it's fine.

Must say seeing your child go redder and redder while you're jabbing a swab up their nose is pretty horrible.

Reading through the thread it sounds like the vaccine is just a carrot to get their members to pay for a £40k one month holiday in Dubai!

(Yes it says Sinovax and Pfizer)

Each UK attendee is one less for the NHS though.

Maybe, those people will still be invited to take a vaccine in UK though, so bit of a stretch to assume they won't take those vaccines too upon offer.

Also, feel we shouldn't be vaccinating those who have caught COVID already, at least early on. If 2M have confirmed had COVID, then vaccinating them is less important than vaccinating 2M others who haven't had it. Won't happen but makes sense to do it that way in a perfect world. Unforunately no official records of who has covid and who hasn't in majority of cases (i.e. Mass Testing doesn't record your NHS number)

Probably too many false positives on a standard test.

We absolutely should be testing but might need something more reliable if we're using it to filter vaccinations.

Are we ramping up yet? It feels like we are not moving that fast but when you compare to the rest of Europe we are miles ahead with our 3mill already given the first dose.

But UAE (not sure of India) are vaccinating using the Chinese Sinovax (?) i believe and stats for those yesterday believe a 51% efficacy.
I remember one of the prominent scientists (maybe Chris whitty) saying anything above 50% is normal for most vaccines.

No quite sure how they correlates to the 90% - presumably the 90% helps the body more, but isn't "40% better"

South America travel ban over Brazil variant fears
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55666198

Given so many flights from South America go via Madrid and other European hubs, I wonder what measures the government will have in place to cover those taking indirect flights?
Anyone who saw Boris in front of the Liaison Select Committee yesterday will have witnessed his total inability to answer questions about the lack of measures in place to deal with people arriving on indirect flights from South Africa - almost as if he didn't realise you could do that.

Quite simply. We are all in a foot race between the virus getting you and getting a needle in your arm.

Don't think any barriers, rules, initiatives, guidance is going to be forthcoming at this stage, not from this goverment.

We are left to look after ourselves and nearest and dearest, but d'you know what?, with our sensible head on we can all do that.
