Moussa Sissoko

Still literally half as many passes as Hojbjerg, and less than no.10 Ndombele too - just can’t praise a central midfielder who continues to get on the ball so little (apart from for his nicely taken goal!)

the ball is a passenger in the game, it's movement is dictated by space, space made by the movement of players, you can influence a game without touching the ball

Pretty sure Sissoko’s header was supposed to be a defensive header that went horribly wrong, or right? ...

I appreciate and agree with that in general. E.g. I had no problem with Dele getting on the ball less than Eriksen, because I recognised that he was making intelligent runs away from the ball to open space for others and/or get into goalscoring positions himself. But I don't notice that kind of thing in Sissoko (with the exception of his goal last night) - do you? It looks to me like he's just hiding from the ball a lot of the time.

I get the humour, but really it's a well worked piece that Sissoko actually started, looked up, made the run, found the space, good header. All well done
He did very well.

Maybe if he taped his head to the end of one of his legs he could stop tackling himself.

It’s pretty obvious that Sissokos role isn’t primarily focused on his on the ball contribution. But when he does have the ball, it’s about what he does with it. Last night whenever he had the ball he used it with quality and diligence whilst breaking forward and helping create which is all you can ask. To try and put down his performance because he didn’t touch the ball as much as other midfielders is a little sad....

as has been said, he's in the team primarily for defensive safety, I don't really care how many passes he makes if the system works

I don't want Hugo ever to touch the ball in a game, it doesn't mean I'd leave him out though

Sissoko doesnt hide from the ball. He hunts it down especially if it is the opponent with it in his zone. There is a reason he plays for France.

Don't know why it's sad mate, I just come on here to try and have interesting discussions about different players - not to put anyone down!

Discuss away mate, just find it sad that in your own words you can’t praise him when he clearly had a good game by anyone’s standards. But each to their own...

Fair point, probably a poor choice of words on my part! I think he deserves a lot of praise for his goal - excellent run, and beautiful finish. But apart from the goal I didn't think his performance was that different from usual, and I thought Hojbjerg (for example) had a better game than him overall - so much more involved, in terms of passing and winning possession back. But we might just have to agree to disagree on that. Either way I did love his MOTM acceptance speech - very endearing :D
