Finny is right the defensive drop off started in the 2nd half. At the time I saw it just as us being too casual due to the relative ease at which we had gained our commanding lead so didn't think too much more of it. But it was Indeed the start of this defensive retreat into our own half. At least at 3 nil up you can somewhat understand. With these slender 1 nil leads it's a suicidal tactic.

The attached images shows where we stand in regards to conceding goals from setpieces this season.
The raw numbers themselves are not that hight but we are relatively high up in the table for goals conceded from setpieces. 6 times as many as Arsenal interesting and 3x times as many as Emirates Marketing Project but the same as United and pretty similar to Liverpool and Chelsea.
Looking at the stats it doesn't seem to the wisest course of action to purposely play for set pieces when we are not especially good at defending them and concede an above average number of goals from them.
Does anyone actually think we play for set pieces?

No, but sitting in such a low block with no means of escape or consistent possession encourages last ditch defending which in due course leads to setpieces.

Playing deep isn't causing us to concede free kicks, but when we do they are in a more dangerous position.
Why do we need somebidy more comfortable with the ball if we’re going to continue to play this deep, defensive style?
Someone who can play the ball out from the back, linking defence to attack quickly without turning over possession. That's my thought anyway.
