The transfer thread

I think Mourinho' s top target will be a huge strong dominant centre half. Hopefully one who will also be a threat from dead balls. We haven't had one of those for years.
That will definitely be a target I think.

I think if it's the top target or not depends on how Rodon has looked in training and how highly he's rated by Mourinho.

For me if we could find the right central midfielder that would be a huge difference maker. Probably very hard to find though.

If Alli really is leaving on loan, and Winks may be the subject of offers, we need to be mindful again of the homegrown issue

Are there any homegrown players we might be interested in? Not really been too many standout players in the PL so far this season is there? Other than Grealish maybe (and that window came and went a long time ago) Any other good youngsters we could line up for the summer?
The only British player I can think of that we have been linked with is Gray from Leicester

WOuld be a great signing but equally he'd also be a great signing for Liverpool, both Manchester clubs, Real, Barca, and GHod knows how many other. No reason not to try though

He's not a physically big player but Jose would like his aggression in closing and hassling opposition

He's got a £25m release clause but bids have to be placed before the window opens and payment in full made within a set number of days.

He's got some really big clubs sniffing around him,so there's tough competition for his signature.

Pool have too many players currently and would need to shift some players in his position too IMO

They might, be midfield is an obvious area to upgrade in their team and he's better than anyone they have at the moment
Don't think their midfield is exactly bad, might need a different type of player if they change their style?

Think Winaldum (arguably their best CM) has only 6 months left on his contract. So that's an issue.

Curtis Jones looks a player though imo.

Liverpool will probably be sniffing around CBs for the window, I'd say their priorities are CB -> Keeper -> Striker (if Jota stays injured) -> Midfield

United seriously couldn't be looking at another midfielder, actually with the size of that squad, they need to sell so many defenders, midfielders, probably even one of the strikers ..

United’s squad is a car crash
Way too many bodies in all the wrong places

I don’t think they actually need very much.... a top class manager would probably sort them out instantly.

They had one who got them 2nd and two trophies, and they didn't let him push the wrong players out (see Pogba), nor pick the right players to bring in.

VDB is a perfect example, not needed and can't believe was a player Ole wanted

A leaner, meaner squad would be better for them
I disagree. The PL season is a long one.... add that to 2 domestic cup competitions, European football and a majority of players at the big clubs also going off to play international football and it’s clear that a big squad is a necessity. It is later in the season when it becomes more apparent and, as I have said a few times, I think it also played a part in why Pochettino couldn’t get us over the line to win a trophy, as when it came to the big games late in the season we were starting to run on empty.

Who knows.... perhaps Ole wants him instead of Pogba? Perhaps he wants him as competition/cover for Fernandes? You can’t win trophies without good options in the squad.

There is zero point to having a big squad you don't use, they have more than 6 CBs that they paid a lot of money for and/or were highly rated and they use 3 at most. There is 30+ senior players in that squad ..

Re the other point, for all intents and purposes the summer target was Sancho, VDB was name to pacify fans at the end .. and the fact that you now have VDB, Pogba and Fernandes playing for one spot and two of them are publicly complaining shows the issue.

If they have 30+ but aren’t using many of them yet then what is actually the problem?

As I said before, I’m not sure that anyone other than the board want Pogba there. If I was Ole I’d be doing all I could to get him out of the club and then having the other two is absolutely fine.

Sancho seemed a strange target to me anyway for Man Utd, again can’t help but wonder if that is a board signing instead of one wanted by the coaching staff. To be honest I think VDB is a better attacking midfield player than Sancho anyway.
