Coronavirus

That video annoys me.
Part of the reason for lack of impact is watered down coverage.
Put images of people on open ventilation and nurses on breaking point if you want real reaction.
We have no issues doing it with war or starving on Africa, or migrants in a boat.

I'm privileged to have grown up with a mum that's serious respiratory issues since birth. I saw her in an iron lung in a scary old Victorian hospital were when I was 5.
It wasn't until this summer she told me about the details of what it's like to have full ventilation - she had to go through that a few times.

People still picture it as being on a ventilator - inconvenient, but just a mask and a machine.
If they saw the tubes down the throat to keep you breathing and regularity with which nurses have to come to stop you drowning on your own saliva, it might have a slightly greater impact.

I can’t get over the government spending 12.5 billion on face masks in a couple of months. Even with inflated prices how can you spend that many hundreds of million on disposable masks in such a short time?

Then test and trace - a case of going through the motions when it was clear the ship had sailed long ago and government never really believed in it themselves. But let’s spend many more billions on it!?

Its an insane amount spent. People can quite fathom how much a billion actually is.

Would be interesting to find the the unit cost per mask.

A better measure would be a cost per life "saved" (choose a definition).

I'd imagine people will stop bricking themselves about getting a cough pretty quickly if they know that.
