The Fight to Qualify for the European Conference League 2020/21

Two games into our tougher run of fixtures. Four points after (imo) two of the three most difficult games in that run, top of the league on goal difference.

If we can follow this up against Arsenal and Palace that would be amazing.

I’d be disappointed with not getting 6 points in those two games I have to say

I can't remember, it all blurs into one when you watch 4 games in a day whilst drinking heavily

I'm not as into drinking - although I do appreciate Spanish red wines - but really enjoy bingeing on a weekend set of games having sampled some of my stellar Covid-summer homegrown cannabis with a pot of Earl Grey tea and some nice artisanal gluten free bread toasted with jam.

The Green Crack sativa is excellent and I'm in a lively, animated state. But the Hindu Kush indica leaves me with serious short-term memory gaps.

Not sure either is ideal for watching football and trying to have rational discussions afterward. But in the moment, it's total 'Whoa Duuude!'

Would definitely be disappointed by any drop of points in any of those games individually.

Arsenal because they're Arsenal and struggling, any loss of points against them is disappointing. Palace because we're better than them. But trying to speak rationally the Arsenal game will probably be quite difficult and breaking down a well organised Palace will be a challenge more like Burnley, Brighton and WBA where we more or less scraped one goal wins.

4 points from the next two would be decent enough, 6 would be very good.

6 would give us 10 from 12
And that’s a great return before we play pool
I’d be stunned if Jose wasn’t aiming at that

Even if we take 4 from the next 2 games, then thats 8 from the 4 games - we'd have taken that in a heartbeat before these 4 games

I always thought 9 from 12 is the average to keep going
Need over 2 points a game to win the league even in this season
Win the next two and we would have 27 points from 12 games and realistically still be top on GD at least. That’s the equivalent of 85.5 points over a season which is till low ish to win the league

We have 9 games in December which works out at roughly a game every 3 days with games against Arsenal, Liverpool and Leicester in there. If we are still top on the 30th of December then i think it would be time to warm up the little Midget gif.

4 points from the next 2 games would be a poor return if we want to maintain our position
Depends what you mean by maintaining our position. Staying top of the league with the chance to pull clear, yes 4 points might not do the trick.

Staying in a strong position from which we can stay in contention 4 points would do just that.

Depends what Liverpool (and others) do for the rest of the season. If they (or someone else) picks up similar points totals to what they've picked up in recent years then 2 points per game even in a tough run of fixtures is probably necessary to be up there at the end.

If the points needed to win the thing is slightly lower then picking up slightly fewer than 2 points per game in this current run of games might be enough of we can rack up the points elsewhere.

Winning against Arsenal would obviously be massive however we look at it. And doable.

We're top of the league and I'm looking to stay there - if you start aiming for less you're already beaten

My aims obviously don't influence anything, but talking about the aims the team should set for themselves I'm not talking about aiming for less.

More that aims will not always be (perfectly) met and that even if our aim is six points from the next two, 10 from the 4 we're currently in the middle of, two points fewer than that would also be pretty good. And it would keep us at least very close to where we want to be with a ton of games left to be played.

Whilst that's all fair enough the talk is of the next 2 games not the group of fixtures the 2 games sit in. Anything less than 2 wins will be seen as points dropped.

The Emirates Marketing Project win claws back some of our dropped points from earlier in the season (everton/west ham/Saudi Sportswashing Machine) so can't be used to even out dropped points here as well.
