2020 - Pushing up the daisies

Undoubtedly one of the greatest ever. 60 is too young. I know many won’t forgive his faults but some of the football he produced was a pleasure to watch. The 1986 world cup was the first i ever properly watched and handball goal aside he was incredible to watch that tournament.

Undoubtably one of the greatest footballers of all time.
But I get the impression he was not a nice guy and did a lot of bad things outside football.

I have to say I was not at all saddened to hear he died, as he had a big negative effect on my childhood happiness; at that age, the 1986 and 1990 World Cups were 2 of the most important and formative parts of my youth.

In the interview with Lineker, he explains how the hand of GHod is not cheating, it is being crafty and that South Americans do this kind of thing all the time and it is accepted as a separate skill/craft which the English wouldn't really understand because the culture is so different. Hence Graeme Sounness' comments about Latinos etc.

I was watching that 'Hand of GHod' match from Melbourne and even i could immediately see that it was hand ball. Somehow the ref could not. Another game where England were robbed by corrupt officials. Great player though.

I watched that game again in its entirety a few months ago, England were brick, and well beaten, Hoddle in particular was a disgrace, did no defensive work at all, the only England players to come out of it with any credit were Lineker, Barnes and Reid.

My biggest issue with his second goal is the standard of defending was like something out the Derby County, 9 point premier league season. Having Maradona waltz through and score is less special when the defending is that bad.

Always makes me chuckle when people get upset about England losing that game. They were complete garbage.
