Falling out of love with Football

I didn’t miss it at all during the first lockdown, was nice having a couple of months off. Probably due to how disappointing Spurs had been for the previous 18 months, I think I was sulking. I’m buzzing again now though, can’t wait for the next games.

The game itself is better than its ever been. All the hoolabaloo surrounding games are more annoying and in your face (if you choose to watch it), and the way VAR is functioning currently is a disgrace, but I reckon it'll get fixed soon enough after the large vocal outcry from everyone. It must, right?

I just choose to ignore most of the punditry, lazy-ass journalism and all that brick, I'm just not interested. I only get parts of it through being on here and Twitter, but honestly don't give a fudge if someone doesn't rate Kane or think Spurs are on a downward spiral or whatever other story they're trying to sell. Try to stay away from all that brick, and maybe your interest will pick up again. There really is NO reason to watch anything about football other than the games themselves, especially not if it involves pundits or former "expert" players. It's just noise they're spinning to keep people entertained/engaged/enraged.

And yeah, wages and all that - too much money in football obviously, but it just doesn't affect me much personally (seeing as I can't go on a regular basis anyway). I can see people who live closer to the clubs can get annoyed and alienated with this part of it though.

Yeah I don’t agree with his core point. I’m not disillusioned with football and am really enjoying it particularly since this poxy virus started. But even before that, as crap as we were, our matches were a major part of my week (it’s currently the main part).

But I do think his points are well made. All the peripheral stuff is almost, without exception, fairly unpalatable. But at the core is still the game that I’ve loved since I could walk. And as long as there is football, the game itself will always be at the centre of everything else. And the game is truly wonderful.

I'm obviously enjoying seeing us doing so well this season but until fans return to the grounds it is missing something. Is there any hope we’ll see fans return this season? I’m guessing the vaccine won’t be widespread enough until mid 2021 at least.

If we did do the unthinkable this season, they could have what they liked in the stadium - Tottenham High Road will be thronged.

Yeah I’m getting carried away with myself but fudge it...
Oh I’d be there
I’d hire a fudging limo to take me and wait too

I am not sure I agree with the first part, the teams we laud today is through the hype you mention in the second part but the Man Cities of the world today would not live with the AC Milan and Ajax sides of the early 90s etc no way. Where it might be better is entertainment but that again comes down to the over hype because we determine average players good by what we pay them and they make the game more entertaining with their inability to defend and mistakes etc. The Premier League is as much entertaining for its lack of quality than its quality.

Thats why I am at odds with the game TBH, Sky telling everyone its the best ever every game, silly comparisons thrown about, players having 2 good games and being lauded, some having 2 bad and being slated, its not for me.

Add VAR and you have brickh0usery of the highest

I don’t agree with that, the fitness difference between then and now is massive.

So fitness is the difference not quality, we are over hyping the game because players are fitter not better.

Full backs that cant defend but can run all day full of mistakes but might get into areas and deliver loads of crosses where 2 might be bang on. Going back other way they give pens. Makes for great viewing but the quality is less.

Right, sorry, misunderstood your point, mine was very much based on effectiveness rather than competence.
