Dele Alli

The truth is that if it doesn't impact on his training and commitment to the club, it doesn't do any harm.

Everyone is focusing on Dele at the moment because his form has dipped, some of that may be because of commitment but form is a complex thing and there is rarely one cause.

If you go back to the period that the post i quoted is from and read the thread from around that time it is full of praise for his form and all round progression - it wasn't long after that point that the teams form across the board fell off a cliff and it's only recently there has been much semblence of us playing ourselves back in to it, so i think Alli was not alone in seeing his form drop off but unlike the rest of the team he hasn't had the opportunity to play himself back in to it the last few months.

I think it’s because of his history of “delivering” his profile is high. It’s like United Pogbas problem
How do you accommodate a player of a certain calibre
But clubs and teams don’t do that anymore, the players are very much now expected to fit systems and styles and adapt to their coaches

The slight caveat to all that is he did have that mini revival, surge of form when Jose arrived...then downhill since?

Agree...I was just about to add that.

It could quite simply be that if you're a bit of a fancy Dan ...Jose just doesn't get on with (like) that kind of player.

I doubt that it will have any impact either way.

He just doesnt need any more distractions. He needs to follow Kane's example - he's a model pro. Even if he could get halfway towards Kane's dedication it would be a big improvement

The problem Dele has is Jose. Jose is 100% 'for the team' , and even if the outside things Dele does do not have a literal impact, it's enough for Jose even if he just perceives they are. I'd suggest the game time for Moura and Lamela testifies to this.

I'd also add that imo Jose doesn't like players that rate themselves, he prefers them humble, but if they're super focused and dedicated that will always go far with Jose.

Edit: what would be interesting if Grealish was here how that would be working out with Jose.

I'd rather our players spent their time on gaming nonsense than playing for England.

I think that you are talking about something completely different to the point I was making

Why should it be a distraction? Is he doing any more than getting paid for a photoshoot and putting his name to something? Kane does that too, so why shouldn't Dele?

It may well seem crass to compare Dele with David Bentley but in certain respects there are similarities. Bentley's problem was he persisted in trying to take on too many defenders at once, he just did not know when to pass.

Dele seems to have developed the habit of trying too many flicks and tricks that don't come off. No doubt it's more complex than simply that - his passing is also not quite what it was (maybe never was?) - but it's likely one reason why Jose loses patience and decides to hook him.

Hopefully though it's nothing more than what most players go through sooner or later, a prolonged dip in form that he will eventually come out of.

I guess the point is that kane is possibly in the form of his life and Dele has not made several premier league squads. So even if it doesn’t make a deleterious difference it can be accused of being a distraction.

All of a sudden have this sneaky feeling that Dele is going to be REALLY key for us by middle of December after some absolutely barnstorming performances over the next few weeks....
