Ray Clemence

Gutted. Superb keeper, can literally only remember 1 or 2 mistakes in all the games I saw him play for us. RIP.

And they were both in his debut, which was not the best.

I am not quite old enough to remember Bill Brown (and certainly not Ted Ditchburn) so I can confidently rank him as the second-best keeper I have ever seen play for Spurs. He never seemed as flashy as Shilton, which might suggest his positioning was better.

Not just shot stopper but great at crosses and busy talking with the defence all the time. Made the job look exciting and easy. Modern goalkeepers like loris and degea all seem to have lower esteem than their outfield colleagues.

He was a great keeper, second only to Pat that i have seen at the lane.
pat and he was literally so commanding and cool but i think clemence for me was the achetype goalkeeper that i have in my mind till now - all keepers make mistakes but here is one that is so engaged with the players around him. I guess it helps with players like Mabutt around him - so much chatter with players in and around the box that draws even the tv spectator in for the drama - and suspense ! I mean you could feel the tension! So sterile these days with "super cool" players either pointing blame or putting up that rehearsed look of utter disappointment for the camera.
