Son Heung-Min

You're projecting Stephen. He just wasn't very good but time and again he did bust a nut to track back. Thought he did well off the ball but was dreadful on it.

As someone else said, Son seems to be a very streaky player. Let's hope this isn't the beginning of one of his bad streaks.
To be classed as 'streaky' it would have to be, as it sure wasn't part of his good streak :)

I thought he (and Harry) looked particularly leggy today.

Harry wasn't great, but Son definitely had an off night, bad touches, several times he lost the ball right after it was passed to him on the left side, didn't seem to have the energy for the runs. There was a pass Harry made late in the game that was very similar to the many assists he made already and Son simply didn't make the run.

He has more than enough credit in the bank, bad day at office, move on .. might be required rest time again on Thursday

I agree. I'd like to see Kane and Son both left at home on Thurs rather than schlepping out to Bulgaria. Take Moura, Vinicius and Bale as our front 3 with Lamela and Bergwijn as back-up

I keep saying it but there is no difference between winning a EL group and finishing second....and if you win your home games and get a point or two away, thats enough to get you through

Not strictly speaking true. If you finish top of your group and are one of the top 8 group winners you're drawn in the same pot as the 3rd Place CL dropouts so there is a slight difference. Could make the difference between an easier or more challenging round of 32 EL KO tie.

But I agree Son should deffo get a rest but Kane will probably need to travel in case of emergency. Hopefully he won't need to come on at any point though.

Playing Thursday nights and Sunday doesn't look like it's doing him any good. He looked knackered again against West Brom, his acceleration wasn't there and nothing he tried was coming off in and around the box. Don't suppose he could be injured for the international break? Having a fit and rested Son is essential if we are going to do something special.

Do South Korea have games in this international break?

He had one of those games yesterday where he combined anonymity with ineffectiveness.
Thankfully those games are much less frequent than they used to be,

He's becoming the new Alli in a way. Even in the games where he's been very effective he hasn't put in great performances apart from the goals and assists imo.

There will be games where the runs in behind don't pay off. Games where he doesn't get enough of those key moment involvements to make an impact. He just needs to keep doing what he's doing and the goals and assists will keep coming imo.

100%

Hopefully the contract renewal is not having an Eriksen type effect on him! There’s talk of parity with Kane, which if that reflects his market value would mean we should be looking to offer Kane an improved one too.

The other thing with Son is I think there’s a temptation to leave him on even if he is not having a great game because we know he can be a match winner in the blink of an eye. The other side of the pitch is much more open to change mid game.

Oh please! That's like comparing apples to apricots. Alli has hardly been able to put a foot right for months whereas until the last four games Son has been on fire. Imv the explanation for his barren patch is quite simple.

Since his run of ten goals inseven games recently Son is now being closed down way more effectively. Managers have divined that he is at his deadliest on the counter so they are organising defences to block his route to goal. Most of the time now he seems to be surrounded by three defenders, so if he tries to take them on he's inevitably going to come a cropper more often. Also his shots are being blocked and he's being obliged to pass sideways or back instead and has failed to score in any of his last four games.

That for me is all there is to it really.

'Just' the goals and assists you say.

I know many a manager that would be happy with that, and that only.
Indeed. If your forward is playing brick but still scoring, there really isn't a problem. Goals are the most (only?) valuable currency in football, after all. If the barren run continues, on the other hand...

I think SpurOTM has a good point, in that Son has hit the headlines and opposing teams are setting up to counter him, whereas before Kane would very much be identified as the main threat. So Son's being subjected to a rush defence as soon as he gets the ball. Hopefully Mourinho's seen this and the solution will be to get him looking for the pass instead -- doubling up on Son should mean more freedom for our other attackers.

Son is the player he has always been since he has been here he has had runs of games when he is almost absent in anything positive, he has great streaks and then there are games when he seems not to be able to do anything right.
