And is not super talented. I know a handful of players in the world that have managed to adapt their game to move to another role (And its not Ben Davies) so TBH you saying that all he has done means nothing because he cant turn himself into Son is slightly harsh in my opinion.

Yeah strange when other people have a bad night it doesn't matter because "they have credit in the bank", but dele doesn't?
Harry and son were cack tonight, playing with players that were fit and they knew well, but hey they have credit in the bank.
Son stopped on the edge of the box and stood looking for Harry while Moura and lamela were free 10 yards from him. 5 seconds later when he can't find Harry he hits an horrendous pass in the vague direction of lamela.
And why was Harry playing behind, a good bit behind, son, lamela and moura?

I refuse to vote for a MOTM based on that performance. Dreadful. It's a worry that we have the 'ability' to put in a performance like that on a regular basis. There's been a lot of talk about us winning this trophy. Embarrassing. We look so short of ideas up front sometimes. The lack of movement from Bale, Bergwjin, Vinicius, Alli was shocking. No doubt against Brighton we'll be a different entity but this really was a terrible performance. Barely created a decent chance against the 140th ranked team in Europe, we're 14th.

Don’t under estimate Brighton
They played chelsea off the park when they lost to them and have been unlucky, although they were pants vs West Brom the other day

Yeah agreed, when it comes to Spurs, assumption is the mother of all fcuk ups, but what I really meant was we will probably put in the other side of our Jekyll and Hyde character and blow them away in the first half. It's hard to know why we have this huge inconsistency but it's been the case for at least five years.

That’s the worry isn’t it. Jose said in the documentary, to Alli I think, that some players have great moments but big dips and the best players don’t have those sorts of dips (I paraphrase but I think that was the jist). That doesn’t just apply to Alli, it applies to Tottenham.

6-1 v United, 0-1 v Antwerp. fudge, we even do it within games, just look at West Ham.

Maybe it says more about me than Spurs but I was counting three points v Brighton. Now I’m riddled with doubt. The joy of Spurs where nothing is certain. It was ever thus...

And should have beaten United - they hit the woodwork about 4 or 5 times before losing to that penalty after the game was over. Certainly no pushovers . We need to seriously up our game and shiw we want it as much if not more than them.

Same for me. No MOTM tonight in a white shirt.

How come no Royal Antwerp players were listed as MoM? From front to back, they put on a textbook defensive performance. Not only did they look good against us, they're top of the table in Belgium, a footballing nation that can teach England a thing or two. They're Euro ranking doesn't matter in the least. Only what they are doing right now.

I'm not upset we lost. I never am when I see a superior team win and they not only outplayed Spurs, they were superior in tactics, attitude and game management. Well done to them and here's hoping a lesson was learned by Spurs.

That's my first strong memory of watching a Spurs game. My brother, fudger who made me support Spurs, told me we couldn't lose. We'd won our 7 cup finals before that and Coventry weren't up to much. Much like when he persuaded me a few years earlier to support Spurs, I believed him. Bawled my bloody eyes out that day.

Haven't watched it since. Must give it a look because I don't remember much of Hoddle or the midfield that day...I was only 7.

Well at least you didn’t have to go on anopen-top bus parade the following day

He's not talented as you think he is. He's good in a very specific context, that context has now changed and his attributes don't especially make exceptionally suited to the current shape.

He would need to remodel his game and instincts and truly he isn't that kind of player.

Perhaps Mourinho hopes that Dele has the drive to reinvent himself, like how Taarabt went from being a nutmeg meister to midfield boss...

I'm baffled by us not seeming to have an actual game plan. Admittedly it was short turn around from the Burnley game, but what was the strategy, at least in the first half, other than pass the ball around without really threatening Antwerp's goal?

And we played like bunch of twerps.

I didn’t watch the game but the team we put out was more than good enough to win and they have all apogee together this season at least once
The players clearly weren’t capable mentally for their game but it’s not the first and won’t be the last time
Thing is no matter how good the players you put out, if it’s a team that never play together there is no chance it is going to be a flowing team performance. The idea of having literally 11 quality back ups is great, and we do - but that is best served as 2/3 of them replacing injured players or rotating them in and the level of performance won’t drop. With a complete team overhaul like this it’s so unlikely to have a good performance regardless of how good the players are.

Also, I don’t think enough credit has been given to Antwerp. They were so well drilled and organsied, much harder to play against than many of our PL opponents so far. They pressed really well in the first half, so I assumed their levels would drop off second half but they maintained it - they were a big reason why we were poor, so fair play to them....

I didn't think the first half was stressful considering the number of fringe players involved. Antwerp were definitely shading it and looking more dangerous but it felt like we could get something out of the match. Giving the goal away so weakly obviously have them a ton of confidence and we seemed especially lost at that point. I do wish he had kept things the same or at least left Vinnie on as he was probably our most promising player in the first half and his presence may have helped carve out some chances.

I don't think you can draw too much from in singular performance due to the miss mash nature of the side. Even for those I don't rate they need to come into the strongest 11 and then you can see how well they fit or do not.

I think this misses the point that people who don't like his comments, and that includes me, are making. Are players going to cry into their cornflakes this morning? Are they going to go see their shrink claiming they're being bullied? Of course not. As Brooks rightly says, these lads are a lot tougher mentally than that.

The issue is this for me. What Jose did brilliantly after the Saudi Sportswashing Machine game was created a siege mentality. Stuff like "trophy-winning clubs get decisions, we don't". That creates a "we're all in it together against the rest of the world" situation. This sort of stuff fractures that a bit in my view. And at some stage he may be relying on Dele. I've no doubt that Dele will always be 100% professional when he's called upon. But if he's playing for a guy who is making disparaging thinly veiled references to him will he give that little bit extra that makes the difference at this level? Mourinho often talks about the importance of creating a feeling. For Dele and some others, is Jose helping to create a good feeling that will get that extra little bit that could make the difference?

I don't really think the comments last night are a massive deal. They're slightly unpleasant and self serving but Jose has done this before and been ultra-successful. This is the way he operates. But criticism of those comments by fans doesn't mean we all think the players are sitting in a corner this morning crying that their manager is bullying them. Some of us just find the comments unnecessary.

That's because it was a totally different team. We put out a scratch side, that had never played together before, against a really well organised team. It was always going to be tough, especially after they went one up.

I'm in favour of playing a different line up in Europe/cups, we'll burn out if we try to play the first team every game, but we need to have a settled and balanced cup team, if we are going to have any chance of success with that approach.
Yes, I agree in theory, sadly ‘our’ Cup Squad look to be ill prepared and bereft of any form and confidence. Being the ‘second string‘ looks to have totally removed all spirit from those players.

Wrong. If you see his post match quotes you will see he said that credit needs to go to Antwerp players and any blame should go to him.

He’s right, what else could say!
He is close to ostracising quite a few players if he continues to manage via the media.
