Coronavirus

So why can we compare Australia / New Zealand to the U.K. but yet we can’t compare Sweden because of the different make up of the country?

The only reason I continue to post in this thread is to counter the opinion of about 5 people, which is bordering on misinformation. Random tweets with absolutely no context. Grandiose claims about what lockdown is doing to other parts of society. The general theme of this thread is that lockdown absolutely 100% doesn’t work, and only causes more social issues. Australia proves what an effective lockdown strategy can do, and I’ve lived through it for 8 months.

To use our Australian friends as an example, only 27,000 cases is to be applauded without doubt, but even with their larger success in lockdown and dealing with Covid they are 40% down on treating cancer patients YOY, so when do we start to see this so called freeing up of services to deal with that? Is that from today? next week? next month? Im interested as it has been leveled that lockdowns save services to treat all.

You keep saying this, but I haven’t heard anything like this in Victoria. Can you provide more information?

I 100% understand your point but on the flip side you also seem to be oblivious or refuse to believe that lockdowns also affect society in negative ways, even when people post links to fact provided directly from the largest charities and Drs in their field there seems to be this utter refusal to even acknowledge that mental health, welfare and other health takes a hit. There is a definite trade off in that respect and people need to decide whats worth trading off on.

Seems some pretty big hitting Australian Drs on there hitting on the points I have for some week, misinformation from them too?

Facts you seems to ignore which is not misinformation is that cancer is a more severe killer when not found in the early stages, if you dedicate your entire health service to one illness whether you want to acknowledge it or not that is playing GHod with who dies and who does not. I mention cancer as its one that people are more familiar with.

As for the UK we have our own National Covid Health Service which experts are saying will take 50 years to recover https://news.sky.com/story/coronavi...ly-caused-16-000-excess-deaths-study-12044923

Overall the analysis estimates there could be a total of 81,500 non-coronavirus excess deaths over the next 50 years as a result of longer waiting times for non-urgent elective care, as well as increased deprivation resulting from a deep recession.

And there are plenty of others suggesting the same solution as the 5 on here have....https://news.sky.com/story/coronavi...in-more-covid-19-deaths-study-claims-12098766

Mate, you seem to be forgetting that I'm living in Melbourne lockdown. I have been since March 15. I know full well about the negative effects.

Yeh I am sure you do, I am also sure from your comments there are many negative effects you are also discounting.

Im just gonna summarise in one paragraph that come the end of Covid when everyone is patting everyone on the back it will be a joyful day, one that I will also celebrate, but if you really believe that all by focusing every effort and service on the pandemic we are not compromising other lives that could mount up to just as many victims over the next 10-15 years is frankly naive.

If lockdown was medicine you would consider the side effects, people on here talk like that's a crime

Sounds like, as in most countries, elderly care has been hit hard.

Not entirely sure of your point. But elderly people are still people, they don't deserve to die. Dan Andrews is the State Premier, but aged care falls under the Federal Government. Professor Doherty is correct and the Federal Government has been oddly quiet other than saying "Victoria should open up" every other day.

Why are you insinuating that the side effects aren't considered in the decisions our Government made? It's laughable some of the stuff you come out with, pure hyperbole.

Presented without any comment:

So as a result of placing every resource into Covid19 be that dedicating the whole health service or placing people into lockdowns does not create huge levels of excessive deaths in other areas? I am not the joker if you truly believe that

I suppose every Dr, health expert and charity that work within the fields that are suffering are all lying then?

I prefer to listen to all the frontline Drs now who deal with patient care on the frontline now scientists whos only expertise is to stop the spread of a virus, they have absolutely no interest in anything else

Hyperbolting, I would say that the fact Ferguson who is still involved in sage when EVERY bit of his reporting has been wrong on this and previous pandemics suggests I am not the one Hyperbolting, I am just concentrating on other areas being neglected...

And so are the babies that were refused treatment.

TBH who are you to decide who lives and who dies either? Should we not treat the 8500 women in the UK who now have breast cancer and not being treated because someone elses life is deemed more important than theirs

Considering 3 million in the UK missed cancer screening this year and 1 in 2 of us will get I would say that is laughable to suggest the strategy of placing all our effort on Covid is clever especially when your likely to improve your chances of survival hugely if caught earlier. How many people ever survived cancer without treatment?

Considering Cancer is more deadly and affects more people from Birth to death then maybe we are looking at the wrong strategy.

*replace Cancer with any other of the 9 illnesses that people are dying of in more numbers in the UK daily

I'm in the city today, as usual the office is a ghost town, literally nothing open
It's horrible
Although we can all go to the pub after work tonight as "business meetings" are allowed to take place

Had to cancel the Christmas party and arrange a meeting instead the other day.

We gave staff a menu option to replace the Christmas party, the can choose from a list of options rather than us deciding what to give them, so if they need something more because of circumstance they can have it within reason.

My last month now and I'm not gonna work other than muck in with some HR stuff like calls to check in etc. TBH the weight feels lifted now that the uncertainty has gone and now I can take some rest and reset.

I'm lucky I can, GHod knows I am, but if anything has come out of this for me is the realisation that mental health is something that's often ignored because its hard to grasp or even quantify but stone me is it important to consider, I've seen that in myself and those around me.
