Dele Alli

Ndombele GLC Dele would be a fantasy option against a bus parking team!

I think this is what makes having Dele as a Spurs player is key for me.

Football does not work how we theorise it on here, players get injured so the idea of Son, Bale and Kane playing week in week out together is unlikely, we have plenty to play for with games coming thick and fast and no two games are the same, some park the bus, some play open like last night but ultimately its rare a game goes to the plan you expect it to. Dele is a huge asset in that regard, he is an out an out goal threat, the lad still averages a goal every 3 games, thats better than Moura and Co, why you would not want to have that threat in an around the team?

People over play the lack of form last year, in 2020 he had 4 injuries, missed 20 plus games through that, played under a manager change, was one of our best players under Mourinho early on and other than Kane and Son was the only real threat to goal in a year in which no one covered themselves in glory other than the aforementioned. And he is only 24 and achieved more personal goals than many players that have come before him in the prem at his age.

Also what is telling, he get labeled this prima dona but there is little to suggest that, yes he can be juvenile and likes a laugh but that gets more airtime than the time he came back early from holiday and spent weeks in the Gym alone. And ALSO in all this there have been no snipping in the press, no cryptic twitter posts, he has actually held his own professionally, unlike Rose who incidentally was lauded for calling the club out...weirdly.

At 24 Alli has ALOT to offer football and I hope that is with Spurs, he is a TOP player

I think the challenge he has been given is get in the team as an 8, as there isn’t a free role as a 10 any more. I’m wondering if he and ndombele need to convince Mourinho that they can play with enough discipline to partner GLC and Hojbjerg, so it will be any two of the three as opposed to just one of them. Winks would the deputise for Hojberg.

In big games with full squad available I think he struggles to get it, definitely a bench option.

To your point, against teams that sit deep, there may be some interesting possibilities.

Did what he needed to yesterday, best part of him yesterday for me was him grabbing the ball immediately to take ownership of the penalty ..

I agree with all your sentiments and have posted similar thoughts previously, especially around my perceptions of Dele’s attitude and what he contributes even when ‘off form’ etc.
The piece I’m speculating on is now we have Bergwijn, Vinícius and Moura to compete for those front 3 spots (+ Lamela) is how he fits into the shape Mourinho seems to prefer and why he has been relegated to a bit part player this season so far. I’m hoping it’s because Mourinho is trying to motivate him to continue to push himself and to contribute more when he doesn’t have the ball : from deeper positions, in which case I’d like to think that means 2 of GLC, Ndombele and Dele will be seen as starters. Although they are very different style wise I just don’t see any of them being third choice for one AM role for us. In many ways it’s an embarrassment of riches we haven’t had for a while.
It may have been as I was paying more attention and willing him to do well but almost every touch Dele took yesterday just showed real class, whether it was the first touch, a first time pass, a weighted pass or a dribble he just looked like someone with a mix of determination to prove himself but relaxed and confident enough in his own ability to do it without over thinking it.

Yet to miss a penalty in senior football.

Tim Sherwood also holds the same record, he put it right at the top of his "Things wot ive done" CV for management applications.

To some extent I'll hold my hands up, was definitely overly critical of him with one comment in the OMT last night. Like after mentioning GLC needed to get up to speed in the game he scored two, Dele really came in with a moment of magic but generally looking like he was enjoying his football.

Not sure what the general consensus was but to me it seemed like Winks and PEH dropped back to make it more of a 4-2-3-1 when Dele came on but it changes so quickly anyway, the main point is that we didn't look disjointed or too vulnerable. I'm sure some will say it doesn't mean much given the opposition but they weren't mugs.

To me it's more than a shame we can't be there in person to see that kind of skill of Dele, whilst I've made some comments about the value equation of bringing in other players in his place in regards to other positions etc I do also hold the hope we'll be able to see him to that week in week out in our lovely stadium albeit slightly dodgy home kit in times to come...

He was fine last night and that trick in the box that lead to the penalty was brilliant, lets hope he can lift his game to carry on doing it. We have a big squad so he may not get picked for every game so its how he manages that which will decide what happens to him.

We had Alli,
Dele Alli,
I just don't think you understand.
Good for a couple of years
Thanks for the memories, cheers
We had Dele Alli.

Didn’t look happy when getting ready to come on. Looked like a child who had just been told off.

Can’t see him being here much longer. Will end up at Everton or Saudi Sportswashing Machine.

He had a shot that squirmed past the keeper but didn't quite roll in, when everyone stopped because Son was offside.
I wonder if it would have been given or not.
He looked up for it, trying hard, good to see - like he wanted to wrestle back his position in the squad.

I thought he was ok nothing more then that, i still struggle to see just where he is going to fit into the team when everyone is fit, not sure if he will be happy to be left on the bench a lot.

Have to agree with that, he's not shown anything in the cameos he's put in to say the old Dele is back, he seems like the petulant child you give a chance to but he's stil sulking and not putting 100% in to his effort.

I am not saying you are wrong, but as it stands who would you leave out of our strongest team to play him>

I think that he needs to decide what position he wants to play (a bit like Dier has). The number ten position that established him isn't there anymore. I think that he needs to decide whether he wants to be an inside forward or a central midfielder. The switch won't be easy but it his best chance of getting back in the team or getting a move to another decent side.
