Son Heung-Min

25th best player in the world. OK. Can someone please name the 24 currently better than Son?

Right now today hardly anyone. If we’re going by the last 12-24 months then I’d say Kane, Lewandowski, De Bruyne, Salah, Mane, Messi, Ronaldo and maybe 1-2 more from Bayern. But yeah this season id struggle to name anyone better other than Kane and lewandowski

Already this season 9 goals and 4 assists from a total of 586 minutes on the pitch in all competitions.

That's a goal or assist every 45 minutes - and he's not even our main striker.
Not our main striker, but playing a wide role focused on getting to chances and scoring. Bit like Salah and Mane at Liverpool, or Ronaldo earlier in his career.

It's just that we have a striker that is at the same time filling the role Firmino does at Liverpool, or Benzema did for Ronaldo whilst also being a goalscoring #9.

Question - has Jose improved Kane and Son as a pair/combination? There was a lot of talk on here over the years that they couldn't play together or, at least, that they weren't as effective together as they were individually when the other was out of the team.

And with Vinicius coming in his role will hopefully be consistent. We are just lucky that Kane can do the Firminho role and score twice as many goals!
We may need to appreciate that Vilnicius can be effective as a 9 even if he isn’t as prolific if he’s helping the wide players score.
It was also interesting to see Moura on the left again, perhaps Mourinho is looking to get more from him as a goal threat cutting in on his right?

It does seem to me that this season especially, that Kane is dropping deeper and as we have a faster / more direct build up and counter attackig style this suits Son being fed a through ball, with Kane coming back into play as the 9 when the build up is naturally slower or being involved in the second phase of the attack. Give the players some credit too, Kane has a fantastic football intelligence, he’d probably be our best centre back if he played there too!
Edit: also the absence of Dele may have been part of the strategy that gives Kane the space to drop into, so by combining his role as a 10 does it make Dele a luxury that has been replaced with a deeper midfielder?

Couldn't agree more.

Watching him against West Ham, he was on another level. With Messi and Ronaldo on the decline due to age, Neymar being a horrible c**t and Mbappe not yet hitting the heights people expect - if Kane can maintain that level of performance against the top teams across a season, Jose's talk of making him the next superstar could come through.

All he needs to do is stay fit! He’s still a talisman but at lead some of the burden can be shared with the options we have, which in turn will hopefully mean we can use him a little more sparingly (as shown last night). He’s talked about winning things and the possibility increases with him being fit and available for the crunch games at the end of the season and not missing a chunk of it.

GHod point about Dele.

Makes me think. Because Dele used to get beyond Kane quite a bit when playing as a #10 at least. Part of it is perhaps that without Dele there the space he used to attack is more open for Son to attack?

Yes that makes sense too. I still think he’s a top player and could reinvent himself as an 8, but yesterday whilst I was willing him to force his way back into Jose’s plans he had a moment where he won the ball Near the halfway line in our half, did a little skill to take the opponent out of it and then promptly picked a risky pass and gave the ball away. I just hope there is a clear ask from Mourinho of what is required and this is a tough love approach to get him back on track. He’s too good to not be at least starting these games and on the bench.

I don't know if he has improved them per se, but he does have them passing to each other in the final 3rd which they both loathe to do pre Mourinho.

We created the same kind of opportunities, but they just wouldnt pass to each other if there was even a hint of a goal. Just think back to all the times either would be free in the open but the player with the ball would frustratingly take the shot on instead.

Maybe rounding off that selfishness is improving them?[emoji848]
